NEW YORK, Dec 21 (Reuters) - AMR Corp (AMR.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday it expects overall fourth-quarter passenger unit revenue at its American Airlines unit to increase only modestly, sending its shares down more than 2 percent.

American Airlines, the world's biggest carrier by traffic, is expected to post passenger unit revenue growth between 3.6 percent and 4.6 percent over the year-earlier quarter, AMR said in a regulatory filing. Passenger unit revenue -- the standard measure of airlines' top line performance -- has been rising recently across the industry, but the upturn is threatened by rising oil prices and some wilting of consumer confidence.

AMR's forecast is lower than rival UAL Corp (UAUA.O: Quote, Profile, Research), whose United Airlines unit said earlier this week it expects unit revenue to increase between 11 percent and 12 percent in the fourth quarter.

AMR also said cargo and other revenue is expected to be about flat compared with the fourth quarter of 2006.

Its shares fell 35 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $15.02 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Hey NHBB's did you see this reuters article as well...

Hey NHBB's did you see this reuters article as well...

The neat part about stock price news is this...if UAL forecasts 11% and only gets 10.5%, Wall Street will punish the stock. If AMR forecasts 3% and gets 3.1%, they'll be rewarded. But what else is neat is this...if someone bought UAL stock at $2 a share, they have nothing because their 'reorganization' took it to zero. The guy who bought AMR at $2 a share is sitting on an increase of over 700%...if it it's "only" trading at $15 a share.

NO "beauty", I wasn't looking for stock quotes anywhere.

But, what I was trying to find out was how bad the wx. had effected AA/UAL in ORD, and WN in MDW.

I use to work in ORD beauty, and I was unable to reach any of my old co-workers.

But I must say, I was SHOCKED to see the disparity (due to wx.) between UAL, and AA.

Actually, "reuters and the Chicago tribune seemed to think that the "disparity that I was seeing....was SHOCKING to them as well.

SO, beauty,

Whats your response to the "trib", or reuters(seeing THEY wrote the Friggin' articles) ???

BE CAREFUL ..beauty,...........you know how EASY it is for you to "RAM" your "Nikes" into your PIE HOLE.

At the risk of derailing this thread further, AA had a higher PRASM in the year ago period than UA so even if UA achieves their 11+% YoY increase they'll still have a lower PRASM than AA if AA "only" achieves the 3+% YoY increase.

Back on the topic of UA's cancellations, maybe they're taking a page from US' playbook.

Jim

Why the constant UA bashing lately Bear? Not like you.

I didnt work yesterday, but was told UA canx 5 flights out of TPA alone and sent as many people as they could toward US filling up at least 3 of our afternoon flights. Today they canx the pm DEN flight, but we were already almost full so we could only get a couple of their customers on.

We deserve to be bashed over this one. The bottom line is, we are not properly staffed. Consequently, when a weather event coincides with a holiday, this will happen. Management has been warned ad nauseum, but of course, we are told to shut up and fly the airplanes, everything is under control.

I feel bad for the people who's holiday we ruined.

FLY,
It's out of MASSIVE FRUSTRATION that I have, Because A GREAT airline is "going down the tubes", An Airline that IS my 3rd favorite behing(obviously) AA, and NW.(sure, don'ttouchthebeauty will NEVER believe it, but WHO cares)

FLY, I KNOW you know this, but let me say it anyway.

When I think of folks like YOU, or MAGSAU,UAL-TECH, or COSMO, just to name a few, IF ANYONE thinks I want to see those folks, AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER GOOD UAL FOLKS, get FUUKED by Tilton, then they don't know me AT ALL.

I KNOW there were many, many flight crews doing there best, leaving ORD LATE on the above mentioned days, to get folks to their destinations, ONLY to be STUCK "out of time", resulting in their being unable to get back home, for their holiday(If they were off) !

It's pricks like tilton, AND THE FRIGGIN' BOD's who should be CASTRATED !!!

Again FLY....It's just PURE FRUSTRATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, that is a laugh, personally i dont care who your favorite is... The thing that I think is simply baffling, is how you are constantly insisting that UAL is headed for DOOM... Do you honestly think that AMR corp is performing as well as UAL?? Do you think Arpey has a vision for AMR?? The sell of Eagle??? un-satisfactory profits related to peers??? C'mon, our CEO sucks, but obviously yours is doing a terrific job... I cant wait to see what your fingers type in the next year on this board. No doubt UAL will likely merge, but, what do you see for the future of AMR, with very disgruntled work groups who will be asked for more concessions and high oil prices coupled with a very aging fleet... I am sure the picture is rosy on your side, but it looks like wall street and others see a very different picture... Say what you will, the "strategy" and "hype" didnt work,, now time will tell, A strike for AMR will be devestating, not only to actuve workers but you as well NHBB's... Time will tell I guess, and not only that didnt you hear that DAL and UAL were "doing a deal".... And from I remember this was from a very reliable source...

I would say the record speaks for itself

YEARS IN BANKRUPTCY

UAL - 3
AMR - 0

Which one do you REALLY think has performed better?

It helps to live in the NOW, KC, not in the past... What happened 3 years ago isn't whats happening now, and AMR didn't receive a prize for staying out of BK, Lets look at profits for last quarter and it looks like this quarter as well.. That speaks volumes... Not your digging in the past... Get a clue, this won't be a pretty year for AMR neither will the next be, but hey, who am I right???

You could "bet you A$$" on one thing beauty, IF AA had EVER declared BK, just once, and had gutted pensions etc, that with UALS great asian route structure, that Arpey would'nt be trying to "PIMP OUT" AA !!
