There is talk of building a "new" KCI that would better serve as a "hub" type operation. There really isn't any room to remodel the existing facility.
Just the terminal or the entire airport?

Is there ever talk about resurrecting MKC airport for commercial flights?

The entire airport. There's been no talk of MKC airport being reopened for commercial flights.

Just operations wise, I cannot believe anybody can operate an effective hub in MCI. I was suprised when I went thru there that you have to leave the secured area to visit the rest room and concessions, plus it seemed like every three or four gates had there own security line. So unless your connection happenes to be one of the neighboring gates you have to leave the secured area and go back thru security. Seems like the airport should consider fixing that but it would take a major investment. Is it that way in all of the terminals or just in the YX terminal?
MCI happens to be my absolute favorite airport when it comes to going through security. There's no other airport I've been to (or know of) that I can go from the hotel van to being on the airplane in less than 5 minutes. Of course, being a crewmember and not having to wait in line does have a little to do with it.

I do understand your point about what a pain it might be if you had to make a connection. Never even thought of that. We only have one gate (A-15 I think) and one flight at a time for our security checkpoint. The only pax going through that checkpoint are pax getting on our flight. If the agent sees someone near departure time going through security, they'll hold the flight for them. Contrast that with security at ATL: Except for the T gates, every single pax goes through the same (only one) checkpoint. It takes about 5 minutes from the curb to the checkpoint entrance, 15-30 minutes to wait in line and actually make it through (on a good day), 2-3 minutes to the train, 2-5 minutes to your concourse, and another 2-8 minutes from the train to the gate. If someone's stuck in security in ATL, they're hosed.

MCI might be a bother if you're making a conncection, but I think it's the best for O/D pax.

I agree! When I arrived at MCI for Airliners International a month ago I stepped from the aircraft onto the jetway at 11:04 and was outside getting into my ride at 11:05! No checked baggage, of course, but where else can one do that?
Departing was a breeze as well: Arrived via the hotel shuttle, and about two minutes later was through security and at the gate (had already checked in online at the hotel the previous day). And was pleasantly surprised that there was a restroom inside the secure area (small, but adequate), as I too thought that there were not any. This was in the center 'circle', WN gates.
I like MCI!

I'll agree with both of the 2 preceding posts.... MCI, by far, gets you thru in seconds.... but they do have their machines 'tweaked' a tad high... I hate having to take off my sunglasses, Airport ID and belt just to pass thru. unlike most other airports.
