Did a low level flyover at BWI today, then was displayed over at mid-field cargo. Herb and the crew was there, as well as the Maryland gov. "brass".

I was joking about this possibility, YEARS ago!!!! I created this flag, in an art project in junior high.

A former state lawmaker found a problem in what was supposed to be a big thank you from Southwest Airlines to Maryland.



There's Only One Maryland
Southwest Airlines unveils its newest plane:
"Maryland One"

The airline unveiled the 737 decked out in the Maryland flag at Baltimore-Washington International Airport on Flag Day last Tuesday.

But former Baltimore City Sen. John Pica Jr., D-District 43, said the red-and-white crosses and the black-and-yellow checks are reversed.

The state flag has two checkered sections in the upper-left and lower-right quadrants, with the crosses in juxtaposition in the upper-right and lower-left quadrants.

Pica said he's no "flag cop" and is sure it was just a mistake. Meanwhile, no one has volunteered to fix the problem.

The plane took 512 man-hours to paint, and the airline told 11 News the paint scheme is an artist's rendering, not an exact replica of the flag.

The "Maryland One" is the 10th plane to have a unique paint scheme, others include the Arizona One, California One and Lone Star One.

Southwest makes more than 150 non-stop flights from BWI, where they recently moved to a brand new terminal.

So in the pic above, the top of the flag is depicted on a/c right (cross can be seen repeated on the f/o side of the cockpit) and the full view seen is the lower half of the flag. 😀

At least it's not a compass rose pointed in the wrong direction. 😀
