What's new

Selling so far

It is what America is founed on.

America's properly touted as the land of opportunity, which implies personal advancement and actual benefits beyond the intangibles.

I think it appropriate here to note that people have jobs for primarilly income reasons = a pay check. Are we clear on at least that basic concept thus far? = I hope so.

"There are plenty of jobs out there where people have to sell things without any commison." Yes, and the "sales force" involved with such aren't generally, overly motivated to do huge amounts of hustling at said jobs.

"Doing your best should be incentive enough." Tell that to higher management then. I'm sure that, once they realize the deep truth of that, they'll immediately stop putting millions in their own pockets, and simply work for the sheer joy of it. The company will immediately benefit from huge cost savings, and they must have all just overlooked that so far.....Especially since it's all about doing your best, and not selfishly expecting anything at all in return.

"Quit being such a marter!" That's meant to be martyr. Marter is an antique root for Marten, which is a bird.

Just a suggestion = Just slowly put down the Koolaide jug, keep your hands in plain sight, back away, and nobody needs to get "hurt" here 😉 The good Doctor and his assistants will be along soon...Just relax now...

WELL, Ive be talking to F/As and they tell me that if they are on a 3 or 4 day trip they carry that money with them the entire time. Not only that but there is no inventory done, on soda sales. Liqour they have to check and mark off, sodas, no. There leads to another response if they didnt want to charge they dont have to, and if they get a little broke while in lets say SAN, they can just pull some petty cash?

Thats why they invented the ethics hotline 😉 but if I saw that on one of my flights I'd just look the other way...after all management has been out to get us all for years and years.

At Jetblue, the day after they went from all cash to only credit/debit cards, the liquor/beer sales doubled!!
Amazing.

On a side note, hows the pay for your first bag going? I was in SJC the other day and watched as the overhead bins filled up before half the folks boarded. They then made everyone left in the gate area (around 70 people) line up at the gate and have there bags checked to there final destination. What a total cluster #### that was. Everyone was PISSED and the on time flight was about 15 late.

we could look that flight up on flight tracker if we knew the date and time but if a flt left 15 minutes late it generally made it up enroute and landed ontime. As far as the bags go, we need to implement a size restriction at security checkpoint to keep individuals from bringing larger items through, however the overheads all employees knew it was going to be a loophole.

If you want an AA f/a perspective (and, I'm sure you do  ), that happens here also. (With the exception that we only sell alcohol and the snacks. Sodas, coffee, water and juice are still complimentary.) I've been flying #2 a lot lately--responsible for main cabin galley and handling deposit envelopes and the money. One of the main problems with depositing the money at the end of each day as we are supposed to do is that the deposit safe is usually so inaccessible, you feel like you have to leave a trail of beans to find your way back.

A lot of stations have it behind the ticket counter because that is where the most cash is at the end of the day. When you arrive after a certain time at night, there is no one to open the door to the hallway which leads to the staircase which leads to the upper hallway which leads to the room where the deposit safe is located. 9/11 pretty much did away with our jetbridge keys opening doors at every station. (They don't even open most jetbridges anymore. And, no the gate agent does NOT want to wait at that door while you wander around trying to find the safe. The agent wants to get home.)

The most critical reason for not depositing daily though, is that I ain't going wandering around an unfamiliar terminal while the cockpit is tapping their foot because the van to the layover hotel is waiting for me to show up. I may be crazy, but I ain't stupid.

Difference between me and a lot of other #2s is that I account for the money, fill out the paperwork, and seal the envelope at the end of each leg. We use the OSR (Onboard Sales Recorder) devices to record sales during flight. I am looking forward to the day when we go cashless as SWA just announced they are doing. Then there will be no cash and no deposit envelopes to deal with--just transmit the sales at the end of each leg. (There may also be a number of resignations of f/as who are using the onboard sales cash to supplement their paycheck and will no longer be able to afford this job when there are no cash sales. Did I just say that in my outside voice?  )

SJC has always been like that. Nothing new here at all. Its because its all buisness flyers with their x-large computer bags who selfishly put both bags in the overhead bins. 70 people? Can you exaggerate just a bit more?

The TSA is for security, not airline revenue enhancement

or we can accept the Brave New World of today and enjoy the good things our jobs offer us for several years more.
"Brave New World"? Do you get a "cut" to offset your dwindling compensation? You view this as extending your "job", as it is, "several years more"?

My friend. You should really see a counselor.

If this helps the company to stay around we all do profit!
Do you have any idea what the word, profit, means? Apparently not.

Employees do not "profit", unless there is compensation pegged to "profit". Anything sold to captive passengers goes to executives, not the person slinging the cokes. This is not hawking credit card applications.

America was "founed" on the ability to make a dollar for oneself, not stuff the coffers of some overlord. Generally, when there is no commission, the worker is compensated otherwise, unlike at US. May I send you a dictionary?

actually, not, sir. There is more than enough pad to cover flights like that. After all, Parker must get his "on time" bonus, right?
