Southwest is spreading their wings "North To Alaska"

Here's even more growth and expansion in 2026. Love seeing this large of added growth and expansion in a single year. Still waiting for the DFW announcement towards the end of the year, but, still should be in 2026. No word or even rumors on SWA starting flights out of the ne McKinney National Airport TKI coming in late 2026 as well. First growth and expansion additions are listed below. Southwest's 2026 growth includes its first-ever service to Alaska (Anchorage) and international flights from Las Vegas to Mexico (Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta). It is also launching new domestic routes, such as from Cincinnati to Austin, San Diego to Boston, and from Knoxville to Tampa, while increasing frequencies on many popular existing routes in cities like Orlando and San Diego. Additionally, the airline is expanding its network in California, with new service to Sonoma County (Santa Rosa).

New Destinations and Routes
  • Anchorage, Alaska: Inaugural flights to Anchorage from Denver and Las Vegas begin May 15, 2026.

  • Mexico (International): Las Vegas will see its first international routes with new nonstop service to Cancun, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta, starting June 4, 2026.

  • Cincinnati: A new daily flight to Austin starts June 4, 2026.

  • Boston: A new route to Boston begins from San Diego on June 4, 2026.

  • Tampa: A new nonstop flight from Knoxville starts June 6, 2026.

  • Sonoma County, California: New service to Santa Rosa (Sonoma County) begins April 7, 2026, with flights to San Diego, Las Vegas, Denver, and Burbank.

  • Other New Domestic Routes:
    • Kansas City will have new daily nonstop service to Boston, plus weekend service to Savannah/Hilton Head and Norfolk.

    • Knoxville will gain a new daily nonstop flight to Tampa, with service to Baltimore, Dallas, and Orlando also starting March 5, 2026.

    • San Diego will add daily, year-round service to Eugene, Maui, Portland, Puerto Vallarta, and Seattle, starting March 5, 2026.
Expanded Frequencies and Service
  • Las Vegas:
    Ramping up year-over-year frequencies on eight domestic routes and offering new international service.

  • San Diego:
    Growing service with more frequent flights to San Francisco and new year-round service to other destinations.

  • Austin:
    Adding new daily routes and increasing frequencies to Indianapolis and San Francisco.

  • Pittsburgh:
    Adding service to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, as well as expanded flights to Orlando and San Diego.

  • Orlando:
    Increased service, with new options and boosted frequencies in summer 2026.

  • California:
    Increased intra-California service.
Customer Experience Enhancements
  • Assigned seating (for a fee) is available for travel beginning January 27, 2026.

  • A redesigned cabin with more seat options, including premium seating, is being rolled out.

  • WiFi is available for loyalty program members, and in-seat power is available on new Boeing 737 MAX 8 models.
