🙁 When I think about it southwest reminds me of Terrel Owens of the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed a contract last year for 7 years. Well this year he thinks he deserves more money, yes just one year later. He says he will show up for practice but he wont be happy.

Southwest sounds just like that!!! Many years ago they were offered free gates to move to DFW. They declined and agreed to stay at Love field with all its retrictions. Those restrictions have been relaxed once already. But now Southwest says the AGREEMENT they signed does not work for them anymore and they want out of it!!!

Dallas and Fort Worth went through a lot to become one. They built DFW airport with the agreement that neither city would siphone off business or money from eachother. Now southwest wants to ruin all this effort as they believe the world revolves around them!! Every Tarrant County and Fort Worth resident should be outraged just as I am!!!!!!!!!! And should boycot southwest!!

HEY SOUTHWEST WHEN IS AN AGREEMENT AND AGREEMENT???????? COME ON OVER TO DFW AND PLAY WITH THE BIG BOYS!!!!!!!!!

You southwest employees should expect this same treatment with all the agreements you have with them. Tough times are ahead after the fule hedges run out so don't expect them to keep any agreements with you!!!

Notwithstanding whatever agreement there may have been....I just don't get it. If the plan was DFW should replace DAL then shut it down! If you leave it open then flights to anywhere ought to be allowed...assuming the runway distances can handle it. If some airline thinks DAL-NRT makes sense then have at it!

If Dallas was serious about it's 'committment' to DFW, then it should have done what Denver did to Stapleton, or Hong Kong did...close the airport and find an alternative use for the land!

I find it ironic that the self-proclaimed free-market Texans can justify the current situation at DAL.

When the Wright Amendment was signed into law on February 15, 1980 it was signed by the President of the US not Southwest Airlines. I believe you are confusing agreement (a contract) with Federal Law.

And yet is was perfectly ok for Ft. Worth to build Alliance Airport, without getting a written waiver from the DFW Board. Alliance then siphoned Federal Express and AA maintainence away from DFW in spite of the AGREEMENT that Ft. Worth and Dallas signed.

So I guess we need to continue counting three fifths of the slaves in the Southern states as a basis for reapportioning Congress? That was an agreement made by Congress, just as the Wright Amendment was. Times change. You and AA are on the wrong side of history on this one.

Actually, I think the original poster meant to say "Hey Southwest!! Come on over and PAY (for $2.7 Billion in improvements) with the big boys.

No i meant to say you are like a little kid trying to change the rules of the game while you are playing it becasue you dont want to play with the big boys. So take your ball and go home to love field and cry.

What happened at DAL is exactly why Stapleton (DEN) and Kai-Tek (HKG) were closed with the runways torn out. Same with the old AUS downtown airport when they moved to Bergstrom...

And the circle goes round and round...

WN never "agreed" to go to DFW and has always maintained that they would not b/c it is too expensive and completely controlled by AA so not a good biz decision.

Also...DEN was closed b/d Denver is not nearly the same size as Dallas and could not sustain two airports (nor was it ever the intention to operate two airports there). Dallas is a different story and the consumer should not be forced to pay higher fares and face more delays out of DFW just b/c we are trying to protect AMR's fortress. There is enough demand to sustain both airports and the only reason that carriers are not flocking to DFW is b/c it is too expensive and AMR will control everything that happens at that airport (through economic power).

But these truths will be ignored within the next couple of days and somebody else will be posting the same crap "WN is going back on a deal" or "DAL should have had the plug pulled long ago".

Of ALL the proposal's that have been floated in the press about DFW/DAL--AA/WN,
"so far" the fairest one IMHO, is the one that,

1. the W/a is terminated.
2. WN flies anywhere from DAL for 3 years.
and
3. everyone(if they choose to) flies out of DFW !!!

Like most other proponents of the "free market" they are only for it when it benifits them, when it doesnt they change their tune.

Bush claims to be "free market". However when the drig industry balked about people buying their medication from Canada he banned such purchases. He claimed he did so because the medications from Canada could be unsafe. However later on when asked about the shortage of Flu vaccine he said that if we need it we will get it from Canada!!!

So the ill ex-auto worker in Detroit worker who lost his job because the government would not fight to keep his job here because we have to embrace the "free market" is banned from driving across the border to Canada to buy medication.

Hypocisy!!

Corporations can move their operations overseas to take advantage of cheap labor but consumers cant go overseas to buy cheaper medication because the Drug companies have bought off our elected leaders.

Now we are over in Iraq teaching them about Freedom and Democracy????

Hmmmm, given the choice of remaining profitable or joining the "BIG BOYS" who are losing $$$ by the boatload and are fighting for their survival, what would YOU pick?

Let's not forget that SWA pays the City of Dallas $15 million in taxes annually, yet its flights are restricted from flying out of its home city... that little tidbit seems to be lost on most of you folks taking swipes at SWA and wanting to maintain the status quo at Love Field. I promise you SWA is thinking 5 or 6 steps ahead of everyone who is debating in these forums, and (if the Wright Amendment remains) I wouldn't be surprised if they pull out all the stops and relocate their headquarters from Dallas entirely, taking their $15 million a year with them and out of the city's coffers.

Your Damned Right!

Also, here are some other suggestions: If your unhappy with your President or congressman get out and Vote. If you're pro-union and don't want to by Chinese don't shop Walmart. If your upset with gas prices take the bus or walk. Finally, if your overweight and fell bad about it don't eat so much, and get your fat a** out there and ride a bike.

All this can happen, but will it?

What a way to Stoke the Fires in Dallas using TO. Being a Pittsburgh Fan I have no love for Dallas after the 95' Superbowl loss. Getting back to my point though, didn't TO Spike the football in the Dallas Star? Comparing WN to TO, What a way to dig up the hated memories and align them with Southwest.

So with that being said.

Let me make your same point with another player like Barry Sanders.

The ones crying there were not just Lions fans but ALL football fans.

SO what we could say then using your analogy with my inserted player is. What points are similar : Say Detriot let Mr Sanders out of his contract he would still be playing for another team and ONLY Detriot fans are out. If Southwest flies from DAL the only enity that would be hurt is AA sort of like Detroit; but all passengers in the metoplex benifit.

NOW we all know that Detroit would not let him out of his contract this is the similaity if the W/A isn't dropped. Southwest loses nothing and like Barry Sanders life goes on without us.
