Perhaps the New Year will bring a bit of prosperity to AA. One of the values of TWA was some old route authorities that might some day be fruitful. We all hope so. Below is a list of old TWA destinations. I was fortunate to fly into many. Some may seem uninviting, such as Tripoli, but they fun in the past. Perhaps they can be so again in the future.
Algiers, Algeria, Amman, Jordan, Amsterdam, Netherlands, Ankara, Turkey, Antigua, Antigua, Aruba, Athens, Greece, Baghdad, Iraq, Bahrain, Bangkok, Thailand, Barcelona, Spain, Benghazi, Libya, Berlin, Germany, Bermuda, Bombay, India, Brussels, Belgium, Cairo, Egypt, Calcutta,India, Cancun, Mexico, Casablanca, Morocco, Colombo, Sri Lanka, Copenhagen, Denmark, Cozumel, Mexico, Dar Es Salam, Tanzania, Dubai, U.A.E., Dublin, Ireland, Entebbe, Uganda, Frankfurt, Germany, Fukuoka, Japan, Geneva, Switzerland, Grand Bahamas, Hanoi, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Istanbul, Turkey, Ixtapa, Mexico, Kuwait City, Kuwait, Lisbon, Portugal, London, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Madrid, Spain, Malaga, Spain, Mandalay, Burma, Manzanillo, Mexico, Mexico City, Mexico, Milan, Italy, Montego Bay, Moscow, Russia, Munich, Germany, Nagoya, Japan, Nairobi, Kenya, New Delhi, India, Nice, France, Okinawa, Japan, Osaka, Japan, Oslo, Norway, Paris, France, Providenciales, Puerto Plata, Puerto Vallarta, Punta Cana, Qatar, Qatar, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Rome, Italy, Saana, Syria, St. Maarten, Santa Maria, Azores, Santo Domingo, Santiago, Spain, Seoul, South Korea, Shannon, Ireland, Singapore, Singapore, Stockholm, Sweden, Taipei, Taiwan, Tel Aviv, Israel, Tenerife, Azores, Terceira, Azores, Tokyo, Japan, Toronto, Canada, Tripoli, Libya, Tunis, Tunisia, Vancouver, Canada, Vienna, Austria, Zurich, Switzerland

Some of those airports had very memorable approaches and occasionally wierd weather like blinding sandstorms. But it was certainly an adventure!

L1011Ret,

I was Navy and UAL but your post brings back memories. Especially Nice, France. I only went in once flying a Navy C117-D in the late '60's. It was not a comfortable approach. They brought us in on that over water approach and the tower kept saying "Confirm you are US Navy." It was not nice to fly into Nice over that gunboat off the end of the runway that had what looked like a 20" gun tracking us. Yeap, an El AL B-707 was on the ground. We taxied out before the EL AL. The old recip required an engine runup. Yeap, fouled plugs. Burn Out. Blocking access to the end of the runway. Here comes the EL AL on his way out. He takes the intersection closes to us and never ever thinks of slowing down. Apparently, he did not have a Fed on his jump seat.

One minor correction: The Iraqi city visited by TWA Connies in the late 40s/50s was Basra, not Baghdad. Which would be a better destination today, since it's located in that portion of Iraq where the local populace would gladly slit Saddam's throat!
