Delta gained approval to suspend payment of non-qualified retirement plans which includes pension benefits given to former employees whose pension is above the maximum amount in Delta's qualified retirement plans. These plans are funded from corporate general assets rather than separate retirement programs.
Approximately 3000+ retired pilots and a number of former executives are affected. Claims are estimated to be in excess of $500M.
