Temp Replacements Or Full Time?

If I recall the other unions at EAL did not join the Strike right away either, and they were all AFL-CIO.

Memory fading a bit, Bob?... ALPA honored the picket lines on Day One. Only 85 out of over 1000 flights actually operated, and Lorenzo failed in his attempt to get a court to order the pilots back to work.

For the first month of the strike, EAL never operated more than 10% of their scheduled flights.

But by July 1989, somewhere between 300 and 500 pilots crossed the picket lines, joined by about 700 non-union replacement pilots that Lorenzo had hired.

To answer the original question it looks as if the replacement workers will be offered full time employment with Northwest.

And that's what made Eastern the success it is today!

"At will" employees can be terminated any time without cause, so I wouldn't buy a house or anything just yet.

The other unions on the property and those of other airlines as well will NOT stand by and watch scab workers replace ANY work group in this industry.

That my friend, is a trend that will NOT be allowed in the airline industry.

I had to check the date on that post to see if it was posted before Aug. 21. Nope.

So that makes me ask ... where ya been the past week? What you said would never be "allowed" to happen -- just happened!

    🙁

How did you miss it?

Sad times indeed for whatever was left of organized labor in the airline industry.

I have found that most people in this forum live in a delusional world. They think Jimmy Hoffa, Elvis and Santa Clause are in charge of the unions thus making them irreplaceable GODS of their profession.
