The Art Of The Argument

This is simply hilarious.

"It's written as a how-to manual with 38 easy rules for winning an argument as your hapless opponent clings to quaint standards of logic and rational debate."

"The basic premise is that it's more important to win an argument than to reveal the truth, and that rhetorical tricks are more effective than sound reasoning in achieving this goal."

UK,
I think the mere fact, you post this type of dribble, leads me to the conclusion, you really are, a bloody fool.

And your grammatical obliteration of the English language shows exactly what?

What's wrong Ronin? No one talking to you?

Ronin's right...you and Ukridge appear to be on opposite ends of the eruditeness spectrum.

I'll give you a hint on my remarks.
Read the article he posted.

OK, atabuy, that was funny. I'll give you that.

Too bad it was over my head until you gave me the hint...that blunted its effectiveness. But that's my fault, not yours.

Thanks a lot, Ukridge. Now I have to add a trip to Barnes & Noble to my to-do list for today. Sounds wonderful. I can hardly wait.

(Not to mention, that the advice should prove invaluable on this BB. )

Exactly jimntx! Although I did not write the review I posted, I placed it on this forum as a joke meant to comment on the shades of disputation we sometimes witness here. Schopenhauer (long since dead of course - pased on about 1860) was a serious philosopher of particular pessimism (think of Hobbes’ ‘nasty, brutish and short’ comments about life - except that Schopenhauer being a philosopher of philosophical bent, wanted to know why). He was a keen observer of discourse and wrote this as a sardonic poke at argument and what it is meant to achieve.
Why post it hear on an aviation forum? Because Schopenhauer would have loved to sit in on these proceedings. To wit!

Why post it hear on an aviation forum?

UK, I don't believe it! 😛

Errrrr. Ummmmm. Ehhhhh. Ah, you 'ave me 'ere Busdrvr. Just 'ere I was, thinking to meself, I'd pick up me writing pencil and make the letters for this post and 'ere I've gone not knowing 'ere' from 'hear.' The Queen's English it is Sir, thats what me mum used to say I needed to learn. First it was me overlooking the 'dis' in 'disinclined' now changing me letters in 'ere' to 'ear.' To think, me thinks me a thinking man. Whats the missus going to say? 😀
