Very good argument.
I guess I would ask why one has to right verses wrong. In other words, it seems to me that most religions have some sort of faith in a supreme being. A creator if you will. The Greeks and Romans thought there were many, most current religions seem to narrow it down to one. Could it not be argued that most who believe in a creator(s) all believe in the same thing but just have a different name? A rose by any other name is still a rose right?
This is going back to what I said before. God cannot lie, so why would he give the Romans one set of laws and the Christians another? The fact is, we don't all believe the same thing. The Jews and Muslims don't believe that Jesus was the Christ, Christians do. Both cannot be correct. Not all Christian denominations can be correct either. Some denominations say that it is a sin to drink alcohol, others say it's not. In God's eyes, one of them is correct and the other is incorrect.
The reason it's important to find the true denomination of the true religion, is that only the correct church will be able to teach you all the correct principles and laws you should be striving to live by. Others may have part of the truth, but not all of it.
Similarly, only the true religion will have God's authority, that is, the authority that the Apostles had to heal, baptize, etc. How could a church that teaches incorrect doctrine have God's authority? Without baptism by proper authority, sins can't be washed away.
So I think it's pretty important that you find the one correct church.
Perhaps I am hedging my bets in terms of keeping my options open. While I do not know if there is or is not a creator, I still lead my life in the best manner that I know how.
Try praying to find out. Try searching for the truth and doing something. I guarantee if you search sincerely you'll find the truth. "Keep you options open" until you find the truth, but if you're passive you won't get anywhere. You won't progress like you could in the true church.
Not with any goal in mind (although I guess it could not hurt) but I am banking on the belief that if there is a god (what ever name it goes by) that ones actions in life will carry far more weight than what religious symbol one chose to pray to during life. IF god is indeed all knowing and benevolent, it will be able to look into my heart and see what is there. I sleep easy at night know that.
True, but this goes back to the authority point, and the fact that the true church can help you be even better.
Going back to your original argument. There can be more than one path IMO. 1+1=2. 4-2=2 as well. Perhaps it is not the path that one takes that is important, but arriving at your destination.
I disagree here. There is only one path. Unless you find it, you won't arrive at the destination. How can you arrive there if you don't even know exactly what the destination is?
Thanks. I certainly believe that everyone is entitled to believe what they want as long as they aren't doing harm to others.I do like your argument though. I’ll have to keep it in mind. Local 12 and 700 would do well to follow your example in presenting their ideas.
