if we depend on foreign oil as much as indicated, then why do the dems contiually stone wall bush's efforts to open up drilling in the ANWR?we go bonkers like '73,Daschle's going to be left holding the bag.

I would be SO in favor of opening up ANWR, IF we had ANY reasonable strategy for energy independence. This administration isn't going to give it to us.

Raise CAFE standards and/or include SUV's in the calculation.

Couldn't disagree more! Get rid of stupid CAFE standards altogether--another example of 'nanny government' in action.
The marketplace will decide--if gas prices rise enough so that fuel economy is a top priority for consumers, then by golly that's what will sell!
Just like back in those few months in '73/'74 when little tin boxes were selling, while big vehicles couldn't be given away.
Let the marketplace decide!

Hey, government has to PAY for the consequences of air pollution, not the individual SUV owner. How do you think that is fair?

What does that have to do with CAFE standards, or the lack thereof?
A 10 or 15 mpg engine can run just as cleanly--or not--as one that gets 40 mpg.
