What's new

The happy thread

-Coke products instead of Pepsi
-PHL-TLV (Huge profits, phl has the second largest Jewish population so no suprise there)
-Going with the "Cactus" call sign (even though easties don't agree, the amount of work to obtain it was too much to let it go)
-Winglets on the 75's
-Going with Airbus (don't get me wrong, I love the Boeing I fly. There's just NO ROOM in the flight deck)
-New paint job for the fleet (at first it was "ehh", but then it kinda grows on you)
-ship sets and hopefully EFB for the planes (no more lugging Jepps!)
-keeping non-rev free for the employees
-And of course, as some have pointed out.... keeping the doors open. Otherwise we all wouldn't be here yapping about this!

Good post, but I respectfully disagree on some points.
They company should asked ICAO for a completely new call sign, one that is not divisive. "Blue Tail"? "Blue Streak" is apparently available again. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:_PjI-rG1V7AJ:www.airlinecodes.co.uk/callsign.asp+icao+callsigns&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

The blue top colors had prestige and panache. And could be spotted a long way off.

Parents have to pay svc charges (plus taxes); a trip to Europe can be well north of USD200. Sometimes a ZED on an OAL is less expensive. I would be not against the old choice between USD 50 annual fee for each person on the term pass (there was a cap for large families) for unlimited free travel or a svc fee for each trip.

Not allowing connecting UM's and not transporting animals in the cargo bins (or is it the other way around?) 😀

A lot of revenue in shipping live animals.

A decision made by a long gone crew that should be revisited.

Not to drift, but I thought that was a post-merger decision, at least for the East side - maybe HP didn't carry animals in the cargo hold or connecting UM's before the merger.

It was post-merger and the people who made the decision were shown the door about fifteen dog years ago.

-PHL-TLV (Huge profits, phl has the second largest Jewish population so no suprise there)

I thought that Los Angeles had the second largest Jewish population. I presume you mean the second largest Jewish population on the East Coast. But I do agree that PHL-TLV was a good business decision.

I think US made a great decision on the Envoy sleeper seats.

And I don't know if this can be entirely credited to current US management, but I think that the US operation at AVP is really outstanding. 🙂

I have a hunch that it was a PR decision - the rule requiring carriers to report to the DOT the loss, injury, or death of pets carried as cargo was published for comments in May 2005. That data is included in the monthly DOT report.

I remeber going thru some type of training a while ago, and they talked about Pets. How we are now transporting some Live Animals out of FRA. The Issue we were told about Pets was that the Not all America West Airplanes had Heated Cargo compartments so booking a Pax with a Pet would have been a nightmare. So your pet can fly from BOS-CLT but cant make the connection to say ATL because its an HP A/C.
