Let''s look at the facts. United mechanics take less in concessions even while the carrier is in Bankruptcy. And now an election announced by the National Mediation Board will allow the AMT''s of United Airlines to be the next major to go AMFA.

Will American Airlines be next or last?

United machinists to vote on union representation
Wednesday April 30, 6:22 pm ET

CHICAGO, April 30 (Reuters) - The National Mediation Board said on Wednesday it will hold an election between the International Association of Machinists and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association for representation at bankrupt United Airlines.

The IAM represents some 12,000 mechanics at the UAL Corp. (OTC BB:UALAQ.OB - News) unit, as well as a larger group of baggage handlers, ticket agents and ramp workers at the No. 2 U.S. airline.

United''s IAM workers ratified 13 percent pay cuts and work rule changes early on Wednesday. The IAM''s concessions are part of a $2.56 billion cost-cutting package the airline has said is key to its survival.

Ballots for the election will be mailed to eligible IAM employees on June 12, and the results of the telephone voting will be announced on July 14, the mediation board said.

A simple majority vote will decide which union will represent IAM workers going forward. However, if less than half of IAM eligible members participate in the vote, neither union will be certified to represent those workers, IAM spokesman Joe Tiberi said.

AMFA filed its latest petition to represent United machinists last month. AMFA has courted mechanics at United for years, filing a previous petition to organize in 2000. A smaller rival of the IAM, AMFA represents employees at the No. 4 U.S. carrier, Northwest Airlines Corp. (NasdaqNM:NWAC - News).

The ESOP fraud will ultimately be the demise of the IAM at UA. The AMT's at UA are simply fed up with the deceit and corruption of the self serving leadership of the IAM. The senior AMT's at UA ratified the TA yesterday merely to save themselves from the wrath of the BK judge. The IAM agreed to many furloughs/layoffs to diminish the amount of eligible voters in a representaion election. The AMFA campaign at UA has wide spread support and will likely succeed if the election process is legit. The past two AMFA elections at UA were tainted by allegations of collusion between UA, the IAM and the NMB.

Great news now we can get rid of this
ramp and cleaner union hopefully forever.
Get them the hell off the property.

Let me repost what I posted on the Ual board.

According to the article, if less than half of the members vote, there will be no union.
Unions only help the slow and dumb employees. If you mechanics are as sharp as you all talk, you would all be better off without the union.
Get paid on your own merits. The sharp guys would be getting 40% raises and the dumb guys that only know how to change a tire would make less than a cleaner.
I guess we will see how many sharp guys are out there soon.

I believe a furloghed member with recall rights will get a pin number from the NMB. Employees with ties to the company such as re-call are eligible for voting in a representation election.

Do you mean like at non-union Delta?

Nice try. Without Unions we all, even those at Delta, would make less.

There will be numerous challenges/objections to the potential list of eligible voters before a final determination is reached by the NMB. In 2001, UA and the IAM "persuaded" the NMB to include management, clerical and administrative personnel in the mechanic craft & class as eligible voters even though they had NEVER been dues paying members of a labor union throughout their career at UA.

RV4(Dave);

BEST OF LUCK ! I hope you guys send SHOCK WAVES thru "centerport", (AND the LARGE number of spineless bastards that we both have to work with, that have the audacity to call them selves Union men), with the election of AMFA.

Call it a "welcome aboard present" for "co-conspiritor" Arpey.
