For Delta to call itself the "Premier Global Airline" they have to do more than put up the window dressing. Everything that I have seen come out of Delta, so far, has been a big disappointment. The quality of everything from uniforms to the paper thin blankets and the cheapest ditch cards ever made, is far from "Premier". It all screams, "Welcome to the Greyhound of the Sky's".

How very observant. Yes it is my opinion that Delta has taken the low road on some of its product. Maybe they are saving money in one place to spend more on another. The barf bags have the nice new logo on them.

Actually i was inferring that what you said was just that...your opinion.

Like you would know. If you are the expert on things, why are you working for corporate America? (Deleted by Moderator: vulgarity) See ya. PS Long live the unions

I agree with your post and I have to say I am disappointed with many of the cuts in customer service. I have to ask you though. When you said they, are you excluding yourself from the entity which you call Delta? As a member of Delta, I have racked my brain trying to think of a way to raise ourselves above our competitors, to be able to have a quality product in every aspect and still price our product equal to or lower than our competitors. I have to ask you. What would you recommend we do?

With all of the technology available to us, why has Delta taken us ten year back by giving us outdated scanners to be used during..... wait....this just in......phone rang and I got the new job. F##k everything I just said. I don't have a dog in this fight anymore. Good luck to all involved. See ya. PS Long live the unions
Good luck in your new venture. We must have posted at the same time.

I can't believe we actually agree on something for once.

Anyway, I know you were asking Bagboy, but I'd like to chime in if I may:

The first thing we (yes, we) need to decide is just what type of carrier we want to be. Do we want to be a global powerhouse, or an LCC. We seem to be trying to do both. I don't believe that's possible. I would hope we go with the former. Once that's decided, we can move from there.

A few ideas:

* Insource as much as possible (yes, I realize this is already starting, but we're taking small steps instead of leaps and bounds). The economies of scale that have come with our size now allow us in many cases to have M/L employees and still have it make fiscal sense. This would also bring an increased sense of ownership across the system, which brings me to my next point...

* Task each division with finding new efficiencies. This would be an ongoing process. I know NW has done this previously, and I imagine DL has as well?

Both of these could result in lower CASM which is what we're going for, right?

*Next, I don't think we need to chase junk yield. No more $99 transcon fares. Would we cede market share? maybe, but I'd rather have profitable flying.

* Simplify the fleet. we have too many types, and too many subfleets on top of that.

* Use some of the (now) excess capacity to replace contract carriers (as much as possible) with our own wholly owned subsidiaries. There's no reason to be paying fee for departure with a guaranteed profit margin to the likes of Freedom.

Anyway, there's just a couple of ideas. As for the previously mentioned safety cards, I'm sorry to say that Bagboy is correct: They look like crap. A simple switch to a non-glossy, heavier stock paper would fix that fast. They also failed to adequately stock a lot of the outstations, so we have no choice but to let these trashed cards stay in the pocket, which leads to a poor customer impression.

Also, as an AMT, can you explain why they're changing these on a plane by plane basis as opposed to a whole fleet type at once?

This analogy is all wrong.

There is nothing wrong with the WalMart product, the product is the same as you'd get at other stores only the prices are cheaper. Therefore Delta should be offering a good product at lessor prices. And to do this WalMart style, Delta would need to pay their employees less and offer no benefits.

As a consumer I'm all for it how about you?

And there lies the rub. We are a society that wants the most, but wants to pay the least amount for it. Who or what will be sacrificed to satisfy?

Serious ideas should be leveled at Dick and his call in shows. The only way that groups in maintenance and ground service are going to get an idea across is to acitvely try to make the people at the top know about the ideas you have. You can still do the best you can do in your own jobs in order to make that corner of Delta flawless. Start sending some internal emails to the higher ups that decide the thickness of paper or the routes and get some answers. Or you can just sit back and do nothing. Gripe about the situation and watch it deteriorate.

I can't believe we actually agree on something for once.
