While the Delta boys were here they had some rumors of there own about the future of hanger 5 DFW. Seems Delta is putting in a 13 year bid for hng5. Possibly leasing bays 1 and 2 till bid comes through.

They dumped DWH, and now want a long term lease from AA?...

Bigger question is why? Even combined with NWA, their operation is a shadow of what it was 10 years ago.

I don’t think it’s a rumor. Delta just expanded there MRO and is looking for dock space. AA wants out of MRO and Delta wants the work. AA just signed a 5 year deal with North American 2 months ago and now North American has signed a deal with Delta 2 months latter.

Because they are going to increase flights into DFW and Hanger space is limited throughout the US.

Maybe the lease agreement is cheaper than the sole upkeep on a much larger hangar that they gave up.

NO NO NO, AFW IS CLOSING AND MOVING TO DWH. HAS EVERYONE FORGOTTEN ALREADY?

True, but it'll still be ~35 flights/day.

How big is this hangar?

DL also just picked up a hangar in BOS...

Thats true, AA was trying for that.

AA was trying to get a newer Hangar in BOS, they failed, Delta got it. So if there's a need for additional space why would they get rid of space they have in DFW?

Like I told the guys at JFK, We dont have the hangar because we have a B-check, we have a B-check because we have the Hangar. They've had that hangar for over 40 years and operations out of JFK have increased since then- not decreased. With the scarcity of hangars available and the volume of aircraft out there, Hangars are an assett.

Keeping HGR5 might just keep competitors from committing to more flights in and out of DFW since they wont have anywhere but the line to do maintenance. I thought thats why they really leased it to begin with.

<_< -------Bob if that's the case, why did AA let perfectly good hanger space go in MCI? They were geting it for almost nothing. ------ Or was that just another TWA thing?

Having a line hangar in MCI is useless. You need it where the planes are....

Mr. Owens;

Dont hang your hat on history. August 25th will be the last flight of the A300. The last A300 "B" check will be in July or early August. So unless JFK is going to get another "B" check, JFK will become just another class II station.
Also, Delta does just fine at JFK with MORE flights than AA, and no hangar. Hangars are only there for scheduled maintenance, anything that cant be fixed on the line will be ferried out, or they will rent space as needed. You may soon see JFK loose about 40-50 in headcount, and the integration of avionics into the general workforce.

<_< ------ Eric, if you care to check it, we have a number of "Revenue" flights into MCI! Unlike a curtain "Overhaul Base" that doesn't!

Does MCI have enough overnighters to justify being a B check station?...

Yeah, didn't think so....

Is the JFK hangar still on a month to month lease? Might they just be planning to keep it until August?...

True, but it'll still be ~35 flights/day.

Hanger 5 has 2 bays with full docks 1 can hold a 767 and 757, 1 can hold 757 only. Planes cant be configured with winglets to use the docks. There are rumors of the docks being modified for winglerts but still no action has been taken. The rest of the hanger has 4 open bays depending on what type of aircraft you put in them. Lots of ramp space and blast fences. This hanger also has lots of room upstairs for shops and one end was once used for training by delta.

Starting Saturday there will only be 50 AMT heads left in hanger 5. Draw from that what you will.
