There is a buzz that TPA will be named a new focus/hub city to the Caribbean starting in February of '08. In addition we have heard the hangar will re-open. Personally I don't buy it, but someone asked me to post the rumor to see if anyone can verify one way or the other.

US is not going to open the TPA hangar, is in negotiations to be leased.

TPA was going to be a focus city years ago and it never happened had flights to CUN, GCM and NAS.

Pemco aims to expand in Tampa

Birmingham's Pemco Aviation Group Inc. today said its Dothan operation has been granted 60 days to negotiate a deal to lease the former US Airways maintenance hangar at Tampa International Airport.

Pemco said the five-bay, 150,000-square-foot hangar would handle more than 400 Pemco World Air Services Inc. workers performing maintenance, inspections and modifications on aircraft. It anticipates creating new jobs in the Tampa area by 2009.

It said the arrangement, if finalized, would "provide a significant growth opportunity for Pemco's commercial division."

Pemco Aviation last week said it will sell the civilian aircraft conversion and maintenance business to investment firm Sun Capital Partners Inc. for $43 million. Â￾

That rumor has been around since atleat 1986. I think PI had big plans for TPA at one point, but they were all scrapped during the merger with US. I remember when I was a kid the CLT-LGW flight originated in TPA as flight 160 and it was a 767. I think that started all of the new hub talk and it has never gone away.

And I hear that IND is going to be a crew base--FINALLY 🙄

When are folks going to realize that the days of "building hubs" and such are gone?

In a few years only the absolute strongest, largest hubs will still exist for the megacarrier legacies. Fill-in-the-holes point to point service will be provided by low cost carriers.

Please, no. No no no.  Been there done that with the last group and it was a joke. I cant imagine trying the international thing with this group in charge. Guess its time to buy that stock in Xanax afterall.

didn't the same thing happen in FLL.. the next mini hub in the carriabenian .. What they forgot was MIA is that hub

Right.

Just as likely as the rumor that US will purchase Alitalia and open expand a European hub at FCO.
You must have eaten bad tacos at that Mexican restaurant in Tempe near the train station.
