This is what AA wanted all labor groups to think. All the reasons more that the mechs should have voted down this contract. I say the co is showing favortism towards the pilots by entering nego after imposing cuts, which now all the other employees can see they would have done the same thing with the mechs group.
Favoritism? Did Northwest management show "favortism" toward its flight attendants when it negotiated for several months following the abrogation of the FA contract? IIRC, the FAs settled on a concessionary agreement just days before NW emerged from Ch 11.
IMO, AA isn't showing any favortism, it's merely doing what a bankrupt company has to do, and that's negotiate cost-reducing labor agreements. With the bankruptcy hammer that permits imposed terms if the employees refuse to agree. The pilots certainly are negotiating from a position of strength - now that the court has approved the abrogation of their contract.
Bankruptcy is all about getting the employees to agree on concessions or getting the bankruptcy court's permission to impose concessions. As much as everyone would like to believe, those are the only two choices. That's been the experience of employees at TWA, CO, HP, US, UA, DL, NW and now AA (and for some of those companies, more than once).
