Please discuss the merger between UA/CO here.

Congratulations. The new United will definitely be a powerhouse of an airline. If I recall correctly the folks at CO still have a defined pension plan. I know it's early, but has anyone broached the pension issue in all of this merger excitement?

This is Up on both Airlines Websites.......

" I PLEDGE......."
Okay, it's official. UAL and CAL will form the world's largest, and hopefully, the best airline possible.

From here on out I'm hopeful that those of us who are employees of these carriers will pledge to conduct themselves on this forum in a responsible and respectful manner in regard to each other. I know it's an oft used phase but very appropriate here....."there's no I in the word TEAM".

I hope we're not subjected to the self-serving claims of some of who deserves what, how more important or valuable this or that carrier was to the transaction, speculation on seniority claims, etc. Bottom line is these two carriers are very complementary to each other and have all the pinnings of forming a truly awesome carrier that ALL employees can and should be proud of.

In the weeks and months to come let's all pledge to keep the discussion at a level we all can be proud of. This truly is an exciting moment.

Cheers,

I can't wait.

Now we have to worry about the goverment and if they will approve this. I say a 75% chance they do.

Is anyone sufficiently familiar with pass policies at both airlines to compare them in this forum? If so, please do.

Congratulations to everyone. This could be beneficial for the majority of employees and retirees.

Does anyone know if the livery for the "new" airline will be as shown on the http://www.unitedcontinentalmerger.com/ website, United name and Continental livery? Is this official?

I think they should call the airline Continental United Airways. CUA.

Thanks. It looks kind of odd, but I think the CO livery is much better than UA's tulip and the latest blue and white scheme and bold font.

One huge benefit by keeping the CO livery and logo is they could have all of the CO planes rebranded practically overnight, simply by replacing the Continental name with the United name. This will be much faster than what DL did with NW, although I have to admit DL worked to sunset the NW brand faster than I thought was possible.

Just wondering what truly happens to the hubs. I know they are saying nothing will be effected but that rarely is the case.

What happens with Dulles and Newark?

Does Cleveland become a mini hub which it currently is?

What about Denver?

Thanks

My guess is that EWR and IAD continue as strong international gateways with enough feed to keep the international flights full, CLE gets further downsized (ala STL) and that DEN becomes less important, but escapes being STL'd for the time being. Today's announcements say that Houston will be the largest hub.

Were the labor groups brought into the discussions early on this, as the pilot group at DL (the only unionized group they had) was? Will there be fences? DOH integration?

The livery looks kind of odd to me, but I think it represents the best compromise.
This is a merger of equals and it is important for the CO employees to know that their heritage is not lost.
