UA drops SEA-NRT

appears that UA is also cutting a lot of its intra-Asia flying but adding an add'l IAH-NRT flight as well as previously planned new SFO-Asia flights.

beyond network issues, UA is also targeting $500 in efficiencies or about 25% of the total- which generally means labor related cost reductions.

UA is removing/replacing a number of 50 seat RJs and counting on increased fuel efficiency of newer aircraft types.

I guess most people don't realize how large the Asian community is in Houston. There are two "Chinatowns". The original on the edge of downtown and a much larger area in southwest Houston. The southwest Houston area even has street signs in Vietnamese (I think...may be Chinese) in addition to English.

Will this trigger a RIF in SEA? What happens to language qualified CSAs? Takes considerable man power to handle an international widebody both AW and BW...

Maybe, but it might depend on how many people are taking an EO, retiring, what the needs of the combined operation are vs. where they're at right now, etc.

Hopefully not. I know the SEA pmUA crews are among the most staunch pro-AFA unionistas, I'm sure this loss is disappointing to many of them and their bidding preferences.

Oh, I was thinking of ground ops when I wrote that.

F/A's will likely head to other bases as their CBA allows (or retire,etc.)...

I know, and was just noting that as an aside. It doesn't seem UA has any imminent plans to close the base but I could be wrong. Btw do you know if CSAs get language override pay?
