The UAL mechs represented by AMFA voted "NO" to their latest TA from the company, yet the union local presidents agreed in advance not to release the percentage of yes/no votes. Why? 51% no votes aren't any different from 100%. It's still a no.

Bigger picture - this is the path that the USAirways' IAM represented workers appeared to be going down just a few weeks ago. The same issue is now in UAL's hands - will the mechs strike or won't they? If they do attempt it, will the judge deny them that right? Or will GW step in, like with AA a few years back, and order them to work? These next few weeks should be very interesting, with UAL taking some [negative] media coverage away from US.

Yea Finally a UNION with a "pair'' has stepped up to the plate and said enough already. so what if GW orders them back to work, they refuse and get Terminated like the ATC when Reagan threw down the gauntlet. LABOR HAS BEEN ANNILATED SINCE 9/11 only to subsidize the Industry and hand out GOLDEN PARACHUTE'S.........A.M.F.A. RULES!

It was the membership that voted it down, not the union, the negotiators and AMFA recommended a YES vote.

The AMFA and/or negotiators 'NEVER' recommended a 'YES' vote.
If you are speaking of the letter by Terry, that was his 'opinion' and he is not an officer or negotiator.

If you have 'proof' otherwise, please provide it or gimmie an 'oops'.

I am sorry I thought the letter by Terry was authorized and I had read on the mechanic.com that it was approved by the committee.

The AMFA is not the IAM, at AMFA the union is the membership, its not just rhetoric like at the IAM, IBT, and TWU.

AMFA members can vote out even top officers and start recall proceedings against any officer, something that top officers of the IAM and TWU never face.

The "No" is the result of a combination of an informed membership and CHOSEN leadership.

No problem, don't believe 'everything' you read there.

Try here:
United mechanics reject concessions

United mechanics reject concessions

Local 9 of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association

San Francisco, Ca. Jan. 28:

Today, the United Airlines mechanics and related employees, represented by the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), voted not to accept the terms of the Letter of Agreement to reduce wages, work rules, and benefits. They also overwhelmingly authorized their National Director the right to call for a strike.â€￾

The AMFA-United Airlines Strike Committee, consisting of AMFA’s Local Presidents, issued the following statement regarding the memberships vote results:

If the bankruptcy court uses the 1113© process to impose terms or changes to our collective bargaining agreement, to which the membership did not agree, the membership will use its right to strike or withhold its services.

"The die is cast and the membership has made it crystal clear to us that they are not willing to work under the terms as presented to them for their vote." said Joseph Prisco, President of AMFA Local 9 in San Francisco. "In AMFA, we truly believe in membership control, and the will of the collective membership is always the final arbitrator. This leadership will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that the true will and intent of the membership is manifested. The fact that the UAL mechanics and related have voted to reject the company's terms is a loud announcement that we will not be funding corporate incompetence any time in the near future."

If there is memrat, then yes..., you blame the members.

Do the General Chairman, Assitant General Chairman, the Negotiating Committee, Grand Lodge Reps, Airline Coordinator or the GVP of Transportation ratify the contract?

NOPE!

The MEMBERSHIP votes on it and they are the ones who decide to ratify or not, is that too hard for you to understand?

If that's what you wanted, then the IAM should have learned from the civil rights movement - in the East you do not pick a fight in the middle of winter.

The IAM did not pick the fight, the company did.
