As I mentioned earlier, I listened to a presentation by LCC chief Sean Donohue. In his remarks he strongly alluded to opening new markets targeted at leisure travelers. Anybody care to speculate what these markets might be?

Only thing I can think of is the Caribbean. Once U goes to all RJ's, there will not be much service there for the Star Alliance.

The Caribbean is a high yield market, now a low yield market. Sending UAL's LCC flights there would not make any sense financially. And U is not going all RJs -- they are finding a better mix of RJs and mainline aircraft to use in the markets they serve.

I'm sorry did you get some privileged info on U because I don't believe U is going all RJ's

That’s how rumors get started.

Oh by the way I here U may be giving AMR a run for their money in the Caribbean and not all with RJ’s
:censored:

I have heard rumblings about quickly building up the LCC in Denver to keep Frontier in check. Frontier has started service From DEN to several cities in Mexico, so how about DEN-Cancun?

Folks -

U has beefed up their daily offerings quite a bit. And, FWIW, a good chunk of the Saturday-only flights are to locations that rely heavily on timeshares, which usually start/end on Saturdays.

If you want to debate the US/AA Caribbean duel, please take it to the US or AA forum. Please return to the UA LCC topic that this thread is about. Thanks.

OK. Back on topic. I think UA's LCC will be postioned well to take advanatge of not just the cost structure, but the route structure and connectivity.

I hope the AC will be similar to Shuttle. None of that SONG nonsense. Have you seen those planes???

I think it should be recognizable as a United product. People want to know they are still on a premium airline.

U is not going to replace it's mainline aircraft with the large RJ order. The RJ's are going to replace some mainline flights that can't currently support larger aircraft. Then the freed up mainline aircraft are going to be used for expansion into new markets eg. the Caribbean, Central and Latin America. Our Caribbean flights are doing stronger then projected with demand increasing daily. 😀

I disagree on that one. I hope UA chooses some other acft type and not that Godawful B737 competing head to head bewteen JFK-LAX with AMWEST..can you imagine? IMO , I think UA should use airbus or B757 equipment.

I agree on the AC type. my previous comments were refering to marketing. I hope the product is recognizable as United, unlike Delta's Song.
