Ua's 767-222's Say Good Bye

UAL is artificially creating a higher load factor by shifting aircraft types. CRJ's replaced some of the short distance B737 routes. A320 are repalcing some of the B757 routes and B757 & B777 are replacing some of the B767 routes. UAL is going to rely on the B777 more and more in replacing B767 and B747's.

I think it's a misnomer to call that "artificially" increasing load factors. If anything, it's more closely matching equipment to demand.

I don't dissagree with your statement. The strugle with the pilots over what aircraft can fly what was one of the biggest ostacles in beeing able to match equipment to demand. But on the other hand, you can't dismiss the fact that a + 78% load factor looks bettor on the books than a +65% one.

In adition, UA is looking into retire the B767 fleet. It does not fit into the concept any more. B777 is bigger than the B767 but you can fly one trip instead of maybe 2 in a B757 on a domestic route. And on an international route they can carry additional cargo which will make up for empty seats which in the bottom line is more revenue with lower expences.
