Hi everyone, I'm a high school student and today our high school had a career expo. As I know United is not accepting any new pilot applications. Of course I'm not thinking about joining just yet, but just curious. I saw a pilot representative from United here today. Does this mean that United is still accepting just not on the website?

GO TO COLLEGE and study one of these majors FIRST:

Pre-med (specialist)
Business management
Pre-Law (sports management)
Environmental Science
Engineering
Accounting (Investment Strategies)

Do not become an airline pilot...... UNLESS you are constantly staring out the window.

Here's what you are in for... you've been warned:

Really low pay and horrible hours at first... thence
Variable hours at work
Variable pay
Variable vacation benefits
Dubious flight benefits
Dubious health care coverage
Dubious retirement package
Dubious social life
Dubious relationship (any)
Long hours at work
Random changes to duty day ( year over year)
Inability to have anything close to resembling a normal life unless you live 15 minutes from the airport.

The best thing... you'll make lifelong friends.

It's still a great job but the reality is do NOT expect to have a "normal" life.
