Unsubstantiated rumor--merger talks in Dallas

Only reason I would want a merger is so US can get a res system that actually works...QIK needs to go!!! So hard to try to rebook someone and you try to find availability and all QIK can tell you is no flights found...market not served....this might have been a great system for HP but doesn't work when you have an airline that has international flights and you have customers that connect to other airlines past your own network.
I agree totally the overlay is BAD BAD BAD

When is US going to obtain 1 or all 4 of the AA/BA/IB ATI slot leases and/or sales that the DOT requested,(2 BOS fixed slots and 2 flex slots at other airports) .

Last year it was US and United; US-CO;now we have US-AA. Merger rumors seem to be oriented to raise stock prices. Once again we are in the merger season rumors. Merger season runs from mid-February to the end of April. I really doubt that AA would merge with an airline like US.

At least here, it seems to be employees - perhaps continually looking for greener pastures. What's it been - the last 4 management teams that a merger was going to get rid of resulting in a bright future?

Nice summary. LCCs west coast presence would be beneficial for the combined company as well because it would result in less competition on the west coast. I don't think you would see them keep both PHX and LAX hubs for very long though, so likely a lot of upset employees on that side of the equation.

AA already has access to the west coast via the Alaska code-share. Way cheaper than buying US and the PHX (+ LAS) hubs.

Furthermore, if I need to go from west to east what is the advantage of connecting in PHX vs DFW (or ORD)?

PHX would become a shadow of itself overnight (STL or worse). With SW setting the fares in the PHX market, AA, at their cost structure to make a profit would probably have to sellout each biz class seat at a huge premium on every single flight, every single day (as well as pack the rest of the plane).

Actually, Wall St usually rewards job loses with higher stock prices.

Old news. There is a whole thread devoted to that article here.
samp2.webpHave you heard about this? <_<

Oh, yes. I had heard about Lindbergh's triumph. But, since the entire thread devoted to your "breaking news link" from last month had 5 pages of comment following the original post, I'm guessing you are the only one who just heard of that article.

Lindbergh made it!. Wow, that's great! Maybe we should keep an eye on this airplane flying stuff. It's bound to take off!

Pun intended. 😀

I asked it before but didn't get much discussion. I know economies of scale/big players are all important but what about JetBlue? Good fleet match....if we get rid of the LGA slots/terminal....lots of JFK flights and new terminal. A little messier but Alaska would be 'barbell' part II. Seattle hub would be nice. There is always Fontier with Denver. LAS and PHX losing flights. Any insight on the combos would be fun for me.
If non of the big girls want to dance... we would be left out of the party.
