Someone spoke with the DOL this morning and was told that the ballots are not, repeat not certified. The DOL would like to hear from the membership as to what they think should be done. The JW supporters are bombarding the DOL with demands for a new election. If you want the 16 ballots certified and the election results to stand as is, it is important that you send an email to that effect to the DOL today. The addresses are as follows

> woodward.ann@dol.gov
> hall.debra@dol.gov
> perkins.kermit@dol.gov
>

You may also call 972-850-2500, and ask for Debra Hall. She is not in today, but the person answering the call will take your message regarding the issue.

If you want a template, here is the email I sent this morning to all 3 of the DOL people. In the subject line I put APFA Election Issue.

My note:

As I member in good standing of the APFA ( Association of Professional Flight Attendants), I am writing to you to express my appreciation for your efforts to rectify the errors of our most recent election.

At the same time, I wish to express my opposition to holding a new election. The only problem was the 16 disallowed ballots. Through your efforts the ballots have been included in the final count. That should be the end of the matter.

Again, thank you.

I then signed it with my name, address, and employee number.

Sent it off to the above mentioned names. I also forward this to all of my f/a friends to do the same.

Thanks, Jim, I just used your example and sent it to the three addresses you mentioned. Along with the typo "As I member," which I didn't catch until the third one! <g>

I read it as "As one member" - so it really isn't that bad.

As long as we get our point across, that is what matters!

Hey! If it weren't for the cost, I'd tell the DOL that I would accept a new election as long as Ward is excluded because of his efforts to steal the last one.

Addressed to:

The MAJORITY of AA f/a's, who voted in the presidential election.

Although I'm "GRATEFULLY" retired from AA, I'LL always be a strong union man, "till I croak" !!!!!!!!1

Having said that,
You guys/gals have done the near impossible, and pulled this "thing" off for THB.

DO "WHATEVER IT TAKES TO CONTACT THE DOL.
Call, fax, , CRAWL, ride-a-bike, take a cab, walk, run, BUT make sure EVERY ONE who wants THB as pres, MAKES THEIR VOICES HEARD AT D O L !!!!!

When I say EVERYBODY, I MEAN EVERYBODY. NO EXCUSES !!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!

(GOD bless you THB)

Mr. Kermit Perkins
District Director
US Department of Labor
Nashville, Tennessee

Dear Sir:

I am an American Airlines flight Attendant, formerly of Trans World Airlines. It is my understanding that certain members of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) are attempting to persuade the Department of Labor to conduct another election despite the fact that there is now a clear winner.

In the past APFA has treated the former TWA Flight Attendants in a discriminating manner. I list the following reasons:
1. They have denied the elected representatives of the former TWA Flight Attendants participation in union affairs under the guise that discussions being conducted at union meetings was of such a legal nature that it was necessary to exclude the TWA Flight Attendant members. Later they freely admitted that the union affairs being conducted while excluding TWA representatives did not necessitate the non-participation of TWA Flight Attendants. In other words APFA admitted to discriminating against the TWA Flight Attendants.
2. In March and April of this year, APFA conducted a ballot of members to certify a contract. The TWA Flight Attendants voted in a block NOT to certify the contract and the vote of the TWA Flight Attendants resulted in rejection of that contract. Subsequently, APFA rejected the rejection of the contract vote won by the votes of the TWA Flight Attendants and ordered a re-ballot. This second vote while resulting in an accepted contract, was fraught with numerous voting irregularities now the subject of Federal Lawsuits.
3. An election for President of APFA was held in the spring of this year. The incumbent winner won only by excluding certain votes of the TWA Flight Attendants. The rejected ballots of the TWA Flight Attendants have now been opened and those ballots clearly indicate that the incumbent lost the election.
4. Subsequent to the initial balloting, repeated attempts to correct the balloting irregularities by some governing members of APFA, have been denied by use of questionable tactics. Certain members of the governing body of APFA walked out of meetings or refused to participate in meetings where the internal procedures of APFA might have resolved these issues. They simply used the tactic of denying a quorum to deny the Democratic process.
Those who have so hatefully discriminated against the TWA Flight Attendants and those who cannot abide by Democratic principles are asking for a new election. I respectfully ask that you certify the ballot elected winner of this election. To ask for a new election is tantamount to reinforcing unethical, discriminatory and perhaps criminal behaviors by some members of APFA. s/

A little extreme here. This is about the election of the union president not about TWA. L1011 believe me there are plenty of f/a's on both sides of the election that agree on one thing, thats the seniority integration. The election is not about seniority but more about concessions and who is to take the blame for that. It really doesnt matter who is president of APFA when it comes down to the seniority issue. I voted for John but think its time for him to step down. Its time to move on and start work on repairing our contract during the next round of negotiations. One more question L1011, were you really a TWA flight attendant? all this time I thought you were a TWA pilot.

Funny Sky, seniority was never mentioned in my spouse's letter to DOL yet you chose to make an issue of it. You are correct, I am retired from TWA as a pilot. My spouse is a furloughed AA/TWA F/A.

Sorry, what was the descrimination that the letter was referring to?

Exclusion of TWA F/As from union business, TWA F/As having made possible the NO vote on the RPA and then having that overturned with questionable tactics and then having APFA refuse to accept valid TWA ballots. Then we could add that swastica on the JW web site linked to TWA F/As....and then the latest rumor - that JW and/or his allies have set up a phone tree suggesting that if THB is installed, TWA F/As would be recalled and AA F/As furloughed. No court mandated seniority settlement would insist on such a drastic measure.
