US 1419 Diverted to COS

Looking from the flight path, was DEN not a viable option being "just up the road" from COS.

COS was probably the nearest suitable airport in point of time and therefore was the correct choice.

This is a requirement of the FAR's even though DEN might have expedited reaccomodation of passengers and was just a few more flying minutes distant.

Not to mention more frequency between DEN/LAX rather than COS which is all Express by Mesa *coughs*.

I'm surprised they even had a full A321 on this flight 😉

Im hearing US has no spare engines, waiting for one from GE to come from Brazil could be sometime next week before they even have the engine ready to get to COS!! I can't make this stuff up!!

OMG, you would have been on that flight. .....You all could have been killed!!!!...OMG, you are all so lucky.......This only ever happens to US, NEVER to CO,UA,HN,JB,AL,ES<HG,MGD or any one else that has ever flown an airplane.....jeeezus cristos, I can never get enough of you whinning, whimpish, egotisital, selfimportant dweebs...why do you fly anyway???? 500MPH, 6 MILES above the planet, in a tiny thin metal tube, with wings that were never ment to hold the weight, engines underpowered, not enough fuel on board, disgruntled, overworked and underpayed employees.....RUNNNNNN AwAYYYYYYY SScreamming......LLLOOOOLLLL

Nice attitude. You are a direct representation of your company. Tempe should be very proud.

First off, I agree that the "we were almost killed" reaction may be a bit over the top. I'm sure I'd be unnerved if an engine had to be shut down in-flight, even knowing that an aircraft is designed to fly safely on one engine. Having been involved with the old East "Flex Alert" system and getting notified everytime there was any sort of incident, there are certainly worse things.

SS255 brings up a good question, though: Wonder how the customers were handled?

Not sure what West does, but as a lot of you know, I worked in East Consumer Affairs. In this sort of situation, we would have coordinated efforts with COS to be sure customers were being taken care of on the ground, we would have obtained as much information as possible from maintenance and the crew to get an understanding of what happened (abrupt aircraft maneuvers, rapid descent, odd/loud aircraft noises or other things that might have been upsetting), what the mood of the customers was like during descent and after landing (i.e. were they hysterical or calm), and we would have prepared a proactive letter of apology either from the Director of Consumer Affairs or a company officer, depending on the severity. That letter would either be in the mail by the time the flight landed, or we'd coordinate with LAX to have them handed out to customers as they deplaned. And, if there were Elites on the plane, we'd be on the phone with them the very next morning to express our apologies, regardless of the day of the week or whether it was a holiday.

All of this under the notion that proactive customer relations activity is much more effective than reactive.

And notice that nowhere in there did I mention compensation. That would depend on how things were handled on the ground and by the crew, and in most cases, it wouldn't even be offered since it would be an insult.

Another flew to Colorado Springs from Philadelphia with a fresh flight crew. The new plane picked up the passengers and continued on to Los Angeles.

This was a good start. Not often you get an entire new plane and crew to continue the journey. Usually a bus ride to Denver and first out would be normal operating procedures in the past or
sorry, it will be ready at 5am tomorrow, pass out the hotel vouchers and rebook them on the extra section (and hope the plane gets fixed). Glad to see that they were able to get them on to LAX (albeit late) with a new crew/plane the same day.

midnightmech was just being sarcastic! I thought it was funny and he has a point!

I thought so too 😉 Too bad people take it literally 24/7 it's just plane rediculous depressing 😉

I know! It is wwwaaaaayyyyyy beyond plane rediculus! Bother way, how was your Thanksgiving? I just flew on a 321 and there weren't any problems at all! I'm still alive. US is just as safe as any other airline!

You should have been watching 16D steal all the booze in the cart while you were taking care of the Octogenarian 😉 It was a bait and switch!!!

Turkey Day in PBI went swell...Nonrevved on AirTran, had an interesting story *gasp* I'm apparently well known! I'm thinking of taking US to MXP this Sunday, only if I could bring a friend with me to split the Hoteliers in europa.

Don't know about MXP but I read an article in the newspaper where some 4 and 5 star hotels in FCO are lowering their prices even through Christmas because they aren't getting as many tourisists as they normally do. You may a really good deal in MXP too!
