US Airways Pilot Arrested

My first question (especially since it's only allegations) is why the pilot was suspended. While what he is accused of is incredibly stupid, moronic, and unethical, it doesn't affect his fitness for the job. I'm not even sure it's a violation of the Code of Conduct. Please don't read into this though and think I imply it was acceptable is he did it; it's not in any way shape, or form.
I may be wrong but I think one of the requirements to hold an ATP certificate(if he was a PIC) is to be "of good moral character". Technically then he could lose his ATP as for most people taking inappropriate pics of teens hardly constitutes being a "good moral character".

Just my $.02 adjusted for inflation!

Where I take offense to your commentary is that for some reason YOU fail to mention that the Individual needs to TAKE OWNERSHIP for his actions. People like You want to pass the blame on EVERYONE else for getting 'their hand caught in the cookie jar'. Blaming society, tv, soap operas and the internet are foolish at best. You either have morals and know the difference between Right or Wrong or You don't. Next thing You will do is blame the cellphone manufacturer for putting a camera in the phone. I fathom to think that some of You would also want to believe that those pedophile priests/clergy really had no choice when it came to sexual misconduct with young children and altar boys because they were literally victims in their willingness to help a child in need. PEOPLE Do S-T-U-P-I-D Things ALL The Time.......some get away with it and some don't. But what pisses Me off to the high heavens is when OTHER's try to defend the possible Why/How and Society Made Me Do it Syndrome. People have CHOICES to make in life EVERY Day.........you need to think with your Head (the right one) or You will 'Crash and Burn' everytime. And do not think for One Minute that I will feel sorry for your demise. It's ALL About Ownership for Your Actions.........and some people REFUSE to Buy into that, it's sooooooo much easier blaming the 'other guy'. Tired of It!

First off, The pilot in question does NOT have to take ownership! We have a jury that if found guilty will IMPOSE ownership in the form of incarceration.

Secondly, there is a difference between a reason and an excuse. The reasons are only important in the larger context of our society. IMO there is no excuse that would if convicted mitigate his actions. People do indeed make choices and as a Libertarian I am a firm believer in accountability. The only way to have a truely free society is for individuals & institutions be held accountabile for their actions. Society is failing in it's obligation to demand accountability that's why you get things like the "Twinkie Defense" actually making it into a courtroom.

Thirdly, Thie rule of lae must be followed and that means innocent until proven guilty. Failure to follow the rule of law and rush to judgement wiould ultimately help the accused by potentially tainting the jury pool.

Fourthly, Sexual predators have a lousy rehabilitation rate. Most will offend again and short of life in prison we as a society have to take a look at our part in creating an environment where "Anything goes". This gentleman, if incarcerated will absolutely suffer at the hands of his fellow inmates. Frankly I can't say I feel sorry for him as he got what he deserved in many ways.

I want this man found guilty (If he is) and subjected to the maximum penalty. As a pilot, he has hundreds of lives in his hands daily and I don't want his lack of judgement anywhere near a flight deck.

I don't think I've ever said "Don't hold people accountable". My point is do it the right way. This limits appeals and such. If on the other hand he is actually innocent I want him to go back to his life as it was before. Truth is I don't know if he's guilty as charged. I suspect he is, but I don't KNOW beyond a reasonable doubt. So let's reserve judgement and have the "I's" dotted and the "T's" crossed so that justice is done.

Exactly. What is "of good morale character"? Anyone feel like researching the FAA and NTSB decisions to establish some type of "case law" here? I actually thought this FAR was removed, but I guess not.

Right now, however, any action outside of the legal process is completely immature.

I think we have some high government officials that give us some idea of what constitutes "moral character". Here is a brief list: Lying under oath, adultery, tax evasion, allowing for the running a brothel in your basement, sex with pages, public indecency, public intoxication, sexual harassment and the list goes on and on. So I guess if a President, Vice-President, Treasury Secretary, and many members of the Congress can keep their jobs with this list of sins, a pilot should be able to be a simple pervert and that should not rise to the level of bad moral character.

Maybe he can get his job back after he gets out of jail?

I hate to break the news to those of you who don't realize that the pilot in question was charged with a misdeanor which means that in PA it is highly UNLIKELY he will spend one day in jail unless he can't make bail which is unlikely as well.

IMO his "exposure" is financial. If convicted it will pave the way to a civil lawsuit that could easily leave him penniless.

Let he his without sin cast the first stone.

This man may have had a lapse in judgement, although sophomoric and foolish, I would hardly call him a pedophile.
Who hasn't done something stupid in their life. Let's not destroy the man and punish his family over being an idiot.
If we jailed everyone for doing something dumb, we'd all be in the slammer.

I gotta say, I don't know the details, but if all he did was take a picture of something the whole world could see, it's hardly a crime. Now, if he were somehow violating someone's privacy by hanging out in places where privacy is generally acknowledged, like a restroom, that would certainly be another matter.

Like I said, I know nothing of the circumstances, but in america everyone is entitled to a fair trial, and being assumed innocent until proven guilty.

It's amazing to read some posts on here. The American Taliban movement is alive and well.

Until we get all the details, I'm in the wait and see mode.

But keep in mind, if true, this is a violation of our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. And could be grounds for termination.

Arrest warrant has been issued for this loser:

Upskirt photos of a 15 year old may constitute kiddie porn; he might face much more serious charges and a lifetime as a registered sex offender.

Oldie,

Please explain how looking up a 15 year old's skirt is something there for the whole world to see?

Seriously?

I wasn't ambiguous. If he violated her privacy he was wrong. If he didn't, then he was not violating the law.

I've seen how a lot of teens dress nowadays. Thongs and underwear sticking out, skirts shorter than miniskirts.

It really doesn't matter. He should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. PERIOD. If you don't like the American justice system, move to Afghanistan.

The guy may be a perv. That doesn't mean he necessarily violated the law.

Given the style of outfits I've seen on occasion in various airports, there is a lot for the whole world to see sometimes....even on 15 year old girls. If a girl presents herself in public, she (and her parents) need to exercise the level of discretion appropriate to that public space. Of course, if this guy was going out of his way to photograph things that aren't presented publicly, then he should face the justice system and let it mete out any penalty.

Absent some history of similar deeds, he should take the court's punishment, apologize (for what it is worth,) and move on. He should not lose his job over a one-time misdemeanor, although if I were in his shoes I would be hard pressed to show my face at work again anyway....even if I was innocent. He's already convicted in the minds of most no matter what the courts may decide, and that would make life among opinionated jerks pretty difficult.

Sticking a cell phone underneath a MINOR'S skirt and taking pics is not acceptable behavior, I hope you dont have a daughter.

And if he is going to be arrested the police and DA believe he has violated the law.
