Where I take offense to your commentary is that for some reason YOU fail to mention that the Individual needs to TAKE OWNERSHIP for his actions. People like You want to pass the blame on EVERYONE else for getting 'their hand caught in the cookie jar'. Blaming society, tv, soap operas and the internet are foolish at best. You either have morals and know the difference between Right or Wrong or You don't. Next thing You will do is blame the cellphone manufacturer for putting a camera in the phone. I fathom to think that some of You would also want to believe that those pedophile priests/clergy really had no choice when it came to sexual misconduct with young children and altar boys because they were literally victims in their willingness to help a child in need. PEOPLE Do S-T-U-P-I-D Things ALL The Time.......some get away with it and some don't. But what pisses Me off to the high heavens is when OTHER's try to defend the possible Why/How and Society Made Me Do it Syndrome. People have CHOICES to make in life EVERY Day.........you need to think with your Head (the right one) or You will 'Crash and Burn' everytime. And do not think for One Minute that I will feel sorry for your demise. It's ALL About Ownership for Your Actions.........and some people REFUSE to Buy into that, it's sooooooo much easier blaming the 'other guy'. Tired of It!
First off, The pilot in question does NOT have to take ownership! We have a jury that if found guilty will IMPOSE ownership in the form of incarceration.
Secondly, there is a difference between a reason and an excuse. The reasons are only important in the larger context of our society. IMO there is no excuse that would if convicted mitigate his actions. People do indeed make choices and as a Libertarian I am a firm believer in accountability. The only way to have a truely free society is for individuals & institutions be held accountabile for their actions. Society is failing in it's obligation to demand accountability that's why you get things like the "Twinkie Defense" actually making it into a courtroom.
Thirdly, Thie rule of lae must be followed and that means innocent until proven guilty. Failure to follow the rule of law and rush to judgement wiould ultimately help the accused by potentially tainting the jury pool.
Fourthly, Sexual predators have a lousy rehabilitation rate. Most will offend again and short of life in prison we as a society have to take a look at our part in creating an environment where "Anything goes". This gentleman, if incarcerated will absolutely suffer at the hands of his fellow inmates. Frankly I can't say I feel sorry for him as he got what he deserved in many ways.
I want this man found guilty (If he is) and subjected to the maximum penalty. As a pilot, he has hundreds of lives in his hands daily and I don't want his lack of judgement anywhere near a flight deck.
I don't think I've ever said "Don't hold people accountable". My point is do it the right way. This limits appeals and such. If on the other hand he is actually innocent I want him to go back to his life as it was before. Truth is I don't know if he's guilty as charged. I suspect he is, but I don't KNOW beyond a reasonable doubt. So let's reserve judgement and have the "I's" dotted and the "T's" crossed so that justice is done.
