Aerobahn Surface Management System

Sensis Aerobahn, a browser-based surface management system, enables airports, airlines, and air navigation service providers to more efficiently and cost-effectively manage and measure airside operations. Aerobahn combines operational information with surveillance data for a comprehensive view of aircraft activity, allowing users to make better real-time decisions for fewer delays, reduced emissions and an improved flying experience. By providing all stakeholders a common surveillance and communication platform, Aerobahn enables Collaborative Decision Making (CDM).

Today the USAPA PHL Domicile Representatives issued an update that said:

Aerobahn Surface Management System

We had two meetings with the Chief Pilots this week to discuss the issue of allegedly "slow taxi" events with select pilots. This latest encroachment on our Captains' authority to operate aircraft as they deem appropriate is a complicated issue and we will be providing more guidance shortly. For now, we recommend that you document anything and everything that delays your progress to the runway. If the Ramp frequency is congested and it prevents you from moving the aircraft quickly, document it. If Ramp asks you to stand by, document it. If your Flight Attendants call to say that someone has stood up or is using the Lav, document it. If you are re-routed and extra time is needed to enter data in the FMS, document it. If ground control asks you to hold position for any reason, find out why and document it. And this is just a sampling; if you think of or experience other types of delays that would be impossible to perceive by watching from the ramp tower, drop us a note.

We think this development is unfortunate. While pilots at other airlines are concentrating on taxiing safely to the runway, it is now regrettably necessary for US Airways pilots to be mindful of documenting each and every delay incurred during taxi in order to protect themselves from false accusations. It's another example of the deplorable safety culture Management has created. We urge you to continue to operate safely while you also add this important documentation to your already high workload.

ACARS has a ground delay function that would not require the ground frequency to be tied up with unnecessary queries for reasons behind every stop.

Of course, the the FAA has reversed it's "kindler gentler" approach in favor of a more confrontational one, so tick off the controllers at your own risk. But this time you'll be answering to the FAA instead of being a gnat in the face of the company.

So how fast should one taxi. A fast walk is 4 mph. (check your treadmill) A fast run is ten miles per hour. (Heart attack!)

If you don't have the brain cells to figure it out after all these years in the profession, then I ask that you resign.

I am really starting to understand why you guys put so many airplanes into the ground.

Augh, so you don't know the answer. I can show you the max speeds in the handbook if it would help you. Keep em safe!

I understand the Aerobahn Surface Management System is advanced technology that can tell exactly what an aircraft is doing while operating. In addition, USAPA officials have reported US Airways has personnel in the Towers monitoring and recording data on US Airways' flights. US Airways has hired a consulting firm made up of former airline pilots who are supporting this effort. The team is recording radio calls to ATC/US Airways Ops, recording door closure times, taxi times, log book write ups etc.; as well as obtaining data from the Aerobahn Surface Management System that can be used as a comparison to validate other information.

All of this data can be used in US Airways' Injunction case to obtain damages/fines that could bankrupt the Union or can be used to discipline a pilot up to termination for illegal actions.

All this corporate spy stuff may have an unintended consequence for the management person in charge of this venture. They may have to report that a lot of what the employees complain about everyday with regard to mismanagement are actually true.

Problem with crap like this, is it's another tool that probably spits out data. The beaners scramble to get that data and pound it into their spreadsheets, and pat themselves on their backs at how nice the numbers flow out. HA see there... our system works. Once inwhile they may find something they can fix or smooth out... Bottom line, they sit in the cubicles and pound the numbers getting them to show them something, Massage those numbers to show the problem, or massage them to make them go away.

Either way, the money spent could probably be saved by simply putting a fairly intelligent individual in the tower for 1-2 weeks, 12 hours a day and let them watch and observe, Biggest problem is finding the intelligent person I guess.... Keep pounding on your numbers.......

Money saved could have been used to for your pay parity.

But it wasn't.

All of this activity can be used against Franke Air as proof they intimidate their employees into making unsafe decisions also. This airline has already been fined out west for past issues. They better be careful here. No judge will tell pilots how to taxi. What I read about the pilots is they are barely a minute slower. Do western pilots not understand the issue of taxiing heavy aircraft for long distances in high heat? They should. Tire problems are exacerbated in the summer with high taxi speeds. Your eastern pilots are flying aircraft which are heavy and on hot taxi media. They should be taxiing slower. Why don t you western pilots quit being so stupid and re read your basic manuals on aircraft handling, and quit sucking up to Franke Air. You are so focused on scabbing you forget basic airmanship. Your union will have a field day putting your idiots who dreamed this up on the stand for this issue. All you have to do is get out the AIM, probably something western pilots never read in Franke Air indoc.

Does AeroAchtung tie East pilots Social Security numbers to their taxi numbers? Somebody needs to keep asking why the company that supports management pilots giving out personal information out now keeps track of employees like the Gestapo.   This is going to be a great lawsuit for intimidation the east pilots will soon bring. :D

Wait till the Social Security number givaway story gets out. This one goes up pretty high I bet.
