US Employee Attire & Grooming Standards

I think the op needs to get over himself.

No. Just flew Porter to Toronto, all the employees were friendly, professionally dressed and well groomed! If a little boutique airline flying Q400s to a small handful of destinations can do that why can't USAir?

Porter pays their 8 year Captains 92,000 canadian (89,000 USD) and their 8 year first officers 65,000 canadian (63,000 USD) to fly a 76 seat turboprop.

In contrast USAirways pays their Airbus captains $125,000 top of scale (15 years) and their Airbus F/O's $85,000 TOS. For a 124 seat (319) 150 seat (320) and 183 seat (321) jet. The 99 seat EMB 190 gets a Stellar 95,000 for Capt and for most of the current F/o's on the 190 they are in the 30 to 40,000 range. (east side)

By contrast Air canada pays their 320 captains 166,000 and f/os 113,000, their 190 capts make 135,000 and f/o's 82,000 TOS (12 years)

(Numbers based on 1000 hours flown a year)

Another way to look at it is Porter pays its Captains $1171 a year per seat, and USAirways pays its Captains $1008 per seat on the 319 and $683 per seat per year for the A-321.

So when you look at aircraft size and capacity little old boutique Porter pays its crews better than USAirways does.

As I said before the old saying applies. You tend to get what you pay for. I don't have numbers for Porter ground personnel but I am willing to bet the higher scales apply there as well.

This has nothing to do with pilot and other airline employee pay and everything to do with customer service 101. You don't show up at a customer contact position without an adequate uniform in a clean and well groomed manner. You're not only representing yourself but also your employer. If Porter offers superior pay and benefits by all means go across the border and seek employment with them on their terms. There are no chains on your feet.

Mr know it all, doesnt know it all.

After the merger US adopted HP's Business casual attire for the uniform. There are numerous options for each employee group. Last time I checked working for US is not a NYC fashion show, its an airline where people work inside, outside and in all kinds of climate.

No one cares about the fate of the HP-US merger from 2005, it may be close to you but it isn't significant for most people. Just because US hasn't been able to integrate the workgroups and had other headwinds with the integrtion is no justifiction for not having presentable employees. Besides, DCA would most definitely be an "East" PM-US station. The Shuttle is USAir's bread and butter, employees should recognize that and be cognizant of their appearance.

The shuttle is not US' bread and butter and has reduced flights and capacity, try again mr who thinks he knows it all.

US had adapted the HP uniform policies, which is very casual, sorry they didnt consult you on their choices, lol!

Once again, people dont choose an airline to fly on because of the employee's uniform, you truly have issues.

Never said people choose based on soley that criteria, all I'm saying is the agent at DCA wasn't appropriately dressed and this needs to be addressed. I wrote into to customer relations to inform them of the situation. Unfortunately, USAir is the most convenient option to DCA so I still take it. The US employes at BOS are dressed better so maybe it's an issue with the DCA station.

Are you on the US Airways' Uniform Committee?

Each agent sees his/hers supervisor and shift manager everyday, there is a pre-shift meeting, if he wasnt in compliance it would have been addressed.

You are not the US Uniform Police, get over it.

700UW - really? Your over-the-top responses to someone commenting on employee appearance is really troubling. The comments you tag on the end are so passive aggressive. Typical. I hope you are not flying that plane.

So you are an online Psychologist?

LOL, you crack me up!

Maybe you need to educate yourself on Joshie's history and his anti-US and anti-union venom.

And come one DCA, you know who I am, we have dealt with each other at CCY many times! lol.

Love the comment about the US Uniform Police...Customers fly the airline thats cheapest for them...customers dont care about what name is on the plane and they dont care about uniforms...they care about what airline is going to save them money...Times changed...theres no loyalty

Remember "Impressions of Excellence?" Your lunchbox had to match your uniform and your socks had to be blue or black. You had to look professional while apologizing for "LX-EQP"

Given the fact that it was DCA and the agent was not in regular uniform top or bottom, there's a good possibility that he was a newhire waiting on uniforms. There are/were quite a few items depending on your size that seem to be on backorder. I'm sure DC needs the help more than they need help in uniform. Sorry it ruined your trip.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't say it ruined my trip just surprised and disappointed that's all.
