US uses hired guns?

Blackwater, which provides most of the security for U.S. diplomats and civilian officials in Iraq, has insisted that its guards came under fire from armed insurgents and shot back only to defend themselves.

So Lets see this video showing cold blooded murder then shall we!!!!!

I shall withhold judgment until all the facts are out (if they ever come out).

They (Blackwater) and our soldiers have an impossible task. There are armed civilians who are just as likely to kill you as are the militia members. How do you tell them apart? I guess you just stop and say wait, are you the enemy?

With that said I think the protection of our people is inherently a military function and should stay that way. They should be paid more (as should all of our soldiers).

No question in my mind that our Military Men and Women are underpaid for the task they are given, however the use of Mercinaries has been a tactic used since the days of horse drawn chariots. I have no problem with 'hired guns' protecting diplomats, convoys, etc... it frees up our Soldiers for more important task like...KILLING THE ENEMY!

It is doubtful that foreign security contractors could be prosecuted under Iraqi law. A directive issued by U.S. occupation authorities in 2004 granted contractors, U.S. troops and many other foreign officials immunity from prosecution under Iraqi law.

Security contractors are also not subject to U.S. military law under which U.S. troopers face prosecution for killing or abusing Iraqis.

I'd settle for making them accountable for their actions Then we can discuss why they are being used in the first place.

Too bad – Soo Sad

We created ‘Blackwater’ and the rest and now must live with the consequences. No doubt that they have been given immunity above and beyond a typical foot soldier. To the most part ‘We the People’ gave them their training and sent them off to war to hone their skills as Soldiers operating under politically charged military dictators and subjected to the politically motivated UCMJ. To ‘Protect and Serve’ has just become a little less important when our ‘elite’ are contacted by Blackwater (or someone like them). Why be a Soldier sacrificing your life for peanuts when you can live large with greater autonomy and do not have to adhere to the UCMJ?

The ‘real’ problem will be when it’s over and these warriors are expected to resume normal lives as carpenters, mechanics and insurance salesmen.

Been there, done that, still have my cammies... 😛

Which begs the question. How many people are in a position to extend the war for monetary gain? Blackwater and the other security companies have a vested interest in seeing the war in Iraq continue and to expand to other regions.

Don't sweat it Gar, there are 27 recognized conflicts currently worldwide. I doubt those 'Hired Guns' have much trouble finding work! 😛

The US is probably not hiring mercs in any of the other ones save for Afghanistan's. While they may be able to find a few jobs here and there, they will not find the number that are being offered in Iraq and certainly not at the rat that the US government is paying.

Sheep Dipped and Off the Reservation are two terms that may apply...

JMHO, Blackwater has US contracts as well, and they are not limited to Iraq and Afghanstan but are recognized world wide as a 'superior' 'Protection Service'.
