I read some updates today and I read no more companion upgrades on on discounted fares. They still get them on Y and B ......AND YES THIS INCLUDES CHAIRMANS

This is good news I hope they continue to make first class something you have to pay for...

and yes I know it has to be cleaned up a bit.......

I am also ready to sell those extra seats......can anybody say ...GO FIRST.......

Selling F is not a bad idea, but get the price down to where it reflects the value. For what one gets, there ought to be a transcon fare of around $900 RT ...that is offered in advance.

IF Y and B fares were comparable to other airlines, fine, but they are not, so this is just another unacceptable devaluation of the DM program.

At one point the companion upgrade was for Chairmans only, it should remain that way.

This from someone who will be lucky to be Silver next year, IF I fly US again.

Doc, sell all you want, because those who know better are gone or leaving.

When does this take effect?

Go first is one of the only good ideas from Tempe. They should expand it to baggage and change fees as well. You want the employees to collect the fees, give them a taste, and they're more likely to do it.

Yeah, sure, have some of the highest fares and increase the nickel and diming of the customers.

If they want you to collect they should give you a livable wage--you already have enough to do.

They truly know the cost of everything and the value of NOTHING.

Forget about FC, who wants to subject a companion to US.

And get your $50 commission for selling the seat. Let's be upfront here.

I pay for F-Class ALL the time.....on AA, CO, DL, NW and UA....I would never, ever, ever pay money to ride F-Class on US. The "F" stands for "Faux" as in "Faux First Class.

"Faux" glassware/stemware
"Faux" cutlery
"Faux" napkins .... and now
"Faux" space.

Sell "Faux" First Class all day long...I guess it's a good thing there's a sucker born every minute.

Seriously, what normal, sane business traveler in their right mind who's ever flown a real F-Class product would ever actually pay money to ride in US "Faux" First Class? Unless one enjoys these types of sights:

Or maybe a really disgusting Envoy IFE is more someone's style...can anybody say "Go Envoy?"

What a JOKE!!!!

And let's not forget those geniuses that occupy the Sand Castle: "We've always said we'd take a hit on one front to make inroads on another, namely, First Class Flyer perception vs. an increased in revenue." (About US, May 15, 2007 Q&A)

Yeah....you won't hear me saying "Go Envoy" or "Go First."

Its only worth a free upgrade, nothing more.

Make the product worth buying, worth having, THEN dump a load on the VFFers and High Yield travelers.

Amazing...JUST amazing. US should be ashamed. At least I can just move on and fly CO or UA.

At least I can just move on and fly CO or UA.
US' network peers that weren't in BK during the 2nd quarter of 2006 - AA, CO, and UA - and thus whose year over year numbers weren't affected by fresh start accounting, had their yield increase by an average of 2.6% YoY in the 2nd quarter of 2007 while US saw a 0.5% decline in yield. If US had achieved the same yield performance as the average of those 3 carriers, it would have added $58.7 million to the bottom line. Not an insignificant sum of money.

One has to wonder how much of that was due to high yield FF's leaving, thus lowering the average yield.....

Jim,

I don't think the effect of the defections has begun to show yet. It really accelerated in the last quarter based on what we have seen.

I think we all know they are massaging the numbers, but it will eventually come back to bite them.

Oh .... and greetings to all from the Admirals Club at JFK!

I am about to board a 767 in F for a trip to Miami--and word has it I will have a real meal!

My BEST to you all......

Art enjoy your time on AA, I am jealous!! Can't believe they fill a 767 to Miami? We use to fill the planes from PHX and LAS to MIA, but pulled out service??? Imagine that?! Enjoy a real F/C product. I still say free upgrades for all elites on US, that is one of the only good things to enjoy!! 🙂

I wouldn't discount it completely, Art. We're talking about very small differences in yield - less than 1/3 of a cent difference between what US realized and what it would have realized if it had achieved the average of those 3 carriers. That equals about $3 per average ticket based on the average passenger journey of about 900 miles. It wouldn't take that many fewer Y & B fares to make that small a difference, much less F fares. But small differences add up when applied to over 16 Billion revenue passenger miles.

I'm not claiming that the whole difference is due to FF's leaving, but I would hesitate to say that none is due to that factor. After all, there have been 10 fare increases by the network carriers this year (4 initiated by WN). Although some of those were after the 2nd quarter, something kept those earlier in the year from showing up in US' yield and bottom line.

I read some updates today and I read no more companion upgrades on on discounted fares . . . . This is good news I hope they continue to make first class something you have to pay for. . .

As as CP heading towards Gold, all I can say is BFD. But in my case, it's not about outrage or anger or anything of the sort. Truth be told, we pax really don't give a damn anymore because we know exactly what Tempe and US is all about and it no longer matters. I've concluded that sh!t is sh!t and you plan accordingly. The emotional and paradoxical love to hate ya loyalty of elites towards US by is gone and so too are your elites.

It doesn't matter if US sells an F or Envoy product sans companion UGs. The ball game is over for Tempe and gang. Tempe's lies, deceptions, and weak product have basically taken its elites out of the equation. Truth is, that without the lies and deceptions, many of us might have adapted if we had been given a clear explanation of the product and had Tempe executed the plan. But that's not the case, and the deceptions continue to grow.

I'm gonna digress, but here's an example.

Anyone here care to admit that Tempe is holding back on confirming elite Envoy UGs when J inventory is sitting there in bucket within the UG window? ( let's face it, we all know that Tempe is hoping for a last minute sale and is pushing GoEnvoy real hard -- we too can watch the Z bucket come to life 7 to 10 days before departure and we can also see if any J inventory pops up ). On a very recent TA trip I watch the bucket, the 7 day window arrives and no UG -- bucket showing J4. Six days out I call the CP desk which checks and asserts no UG, telling me to check back the next day. Only when I tell them I'm looking at the bucket as we speak and it shows J4 do I get the UG then and there. Same exact scenerio on my return trip. Doesn't look or feel like human error to me ( which I can always forgive).

I'm not calling this a crime against humanity. But it is deception as Tempe is not living up to the words and its own promises for the DM and UG process. Then again, I've known that something is rotten in Tempe for a long time. No small wonder then that all sorts of things are going wrong with this airline for pax and employees.

My response is not outrage or firing off a nasty complaint to CA. Our priority remains flying from point A to point B while developing a reliable relationship with an airline -- and we will pay extra within limits to make our flying better. Living near PHL, we're currently stuck with US and this terrible product and management team. But we're looking and we're hoping that Open Skies brings some new choices to PHL in the future. In the mean time, we're holding the line at Gold status as our *A Gold status is important to us. We've dropped our remaining planned flights with US for the year as we're done trying to play the game with US. It's a bittersweet situation as we've always enjoyed those fine veteran FCs on the TA flights who try to do the job with whatever Tempe gives them. Tempe's lies, deceptions, and continued product failures stick in our throats compelling us that we too must change how and with whom we fly.

The inertia of being a big airline is what keeps Tempe flying at the moment despite its mistakes and mismanagement ( posting profits which make DP think he's a genius ). But Tempe has also created a negative business inertia which is increasingly difficult to disavow. It's a matter of time before the chickens come home to roost. I'll live with no companion UGs, but you guys gotta live with Parker and where he's taking the airline. Good luck.

It baffles me as to why anyone with a brain would pay for first class on US. I can certainly buy my own bag of potato chips and my own cookies in the airport for way less than the GOFirst price. I guess it must be those poor uneducated soles who don't fly much and actually think that they are going to get first class service - bet they are surprised when the snack basket comes around and the plastic cups come out - some first class service! And all for only $50.00 or more - what a bargain!

So I guess you have no guilt about ripping off customers by selling them an upgrade to first - nice.
