Yes, they filled a 767 to Miami.
To be fair it was a 767-200, and it holds fewer passengers than the A300 which runs the rest of the JFK schedule, but here are a couple of highlights:
F class on a 3 class airplane-one of the transcon fleet. Only 9 F seats-what a pleasure.
AA recognizes those elites who failed to get their upgrades, and endeavors to put them in the business class cabin of this aircraft--this flight operates 2 classes of service, but it's a nice "thank you for your loyalty" to get the nicer seat.
2 hours 34 minutes runway to runway--with hot towels, hot meals, and a movie. Oh that's right no meals on US under 3 and a half hours, virtually eliminating the need to feed pesky customers between the northeast and Florida........
I don't want to lose sight of the original theme of this thread---it's not the removal of companion upgrades themselves, it is the perpetual "how can we punish loyal customers more" attitude such a customer unfriendly move represents.
The companion issue may have gone full circle, however...if I recall correctly, before the merger companion upgrades were only for Chairmans, THEN they expanded to all elites--how about just a return to chairmans rather than the Y/B requirement? No one in their right mind would pay such fares any more anyway--especially when the competition SELLS a real F product for considerably less than US Y/B in most markets.
You know this reminds me of the old Woody Allen joke--the two old ladies standing in line for lunch at the nursing home--one says "the food here is really terrible", and the other says back, "yeah and such small portions".........
Then again this could be just another "alignment" with Mileage Plus or another player to be named later........
