USAirways Loosens Purse Strings

Looks like "cost neutral" isn't cast in stone afterall.

Very interesting.

I don't know about that. Dougie still does not admit that he's budging to add any cost to either pilot contract.

How do you figure that, when the spokesman said they will go to the higher of hte 2 cost structures?

Why would anyone think it was?

If you think about it, "cost neutral" in a real world where the cost of living increases, is simply a paycut every year.

Cost neutral is cast in stone only by an ineffectual union unwilling to push back.

Dougie is a consumate negotiator. I just wish the union had even marginally competant negotiating accumen. Sadly, I hear the BOS reps are willing to sell scope for a couple of shekels. I guess that means that a merger with DAL will find the USAirways pilots flying the rjs, at increased pay from what they pay now. Whoopee!

They've already proved their competance at painting themselves into a corner. Try something different, boys. Like a little push-back. See how far Dougie is willing to go. Just take one of his buttons and shove him backwards, just a little bit. It would be a first for the last ten years. See how much he wants this merger. With the stakes raised, I bet he wants it a lot. Let us see how much he wants it, for once.

Just sayin'

Now it's time for the two pilot groups to up the ante to what they have been trying to get in the first place...

...Not the better of the two contracts, but the better parts of each contract...

Now is NOT the time to blink.

I thought Parker has been saying all along that he did not care which contract they choose, but that he would not agree to choosing the best of both contracts.

Am I failing to see something because he is still not saying that they can have the best aspects of both contracts?

Parker has repeatedly said two things in the crew meetings:

1 - the cost of a combined contract could not be higher than the total cost of the two individual contracts (cost neutral), and

2 - that the East contract was the less costly of the two contracts.

That is why he has also said that the company could impose the East (less costly) contract on the combined pilot group if necessary.

Dave Siegel (remember him?) offered the USAirways pilots the America West contract as far back as Bankruptcy 1.

Just readjusting the cheese again methinks.

From the latest code a phone message, doogie and scooter want the westies scope clause, not the easties. Seems that the east scope complicates things for a deltoid get-together....
Also, they offered a 'all or nothing' of the entire west contract or bumpkis. The carrot is the paltry $ increase, the stick is the west scope. Their reward, MUCHO DOLLAROS with a smoother path (no alpo complication) to the merge and all those investment bucks....
When in doubt, follow the money.
Cheers.
