OK, Hell with the I-Pod, I need a new one anyway. Just get me the Million Back as well as My Rolex.

I agree that he should have known better than to check his laptop. However, he said in the video that he simply mixed up the two bags - one that he checked, the other that he carried on. I'm sure he's not the first person to make this mistake. He shouldn't be expected to pay for that mistake by losing his laptop - but that's what happened. Certainly, no one here thinks that his mistake is greater than the mistakes that are made daily by US in Philly when it comes to baggage handling.
We all know that there are some very airline-friendly limits on liability for lost luggage, so he is screwed, but that still doesn't make it right.
Coincidentally, there has been some discussion recently about whether pax should be REQUIRED to check their laptops - for security reasons. I doubt it will ever happen, but if it does, you can bet that airlines' the current liability limits will go way up under pressure from the floods of people who will certainly be in the same boat as this poor guy.

I cant believe some of the reply's on this subject. Since when should a passenger have to worry about any personal items that have been placed in a bag that's been checked in?
I've worked on the ramp and at not time did I ever think about taking something that didn't belong to me especially from someone that's basically putting food on my table. I've had bags open up on me and if possible I'd have someone there with me to verify that at no time was anything ever taken and when someone else wasn't available that still didn't give me the right to "help myself".
To think that management knows this problem exists and has done next to nothing to fix it is beyond belief.

I didnt listen thru his whole video, but from the remarks at the start it made it sound like his whole bag was gone, not just the laptop. Did he clarify it later that things were missing from the bag and he got the bag back or is the whole thing still missing?
Better checks at the airport could also help with bags just walking away from the carousel. With the cutbacks on agents, there arent enough people in baggage (not just a US thing) to take claims at the office, work the phones, set claims up and pull the bags from the belt that are leftover. Even though many airports have cameras in the baggage area, unless there is a massive problem and the cops get involved, I wouldnt be surprised that some of the "missing" bags that never show up arent actually missing and not from airline people either. Just an observation from where I work and various travel experiences.
I also think cameras in the TSA screening area and bag rooms are a good idea.
