"The French would tell you" that they've  been conducting raids and disarming would-be terrorists at a record rate lately, and even going so far as to close down a notable number of mosques. Are you truly THAT willfully oblivious to what's actually going in the real world?
 
Having people with both the proper training and ability to usefully employ firearms has already saved innocents more times than you could possibly count, much less ever imagine it seems. The only "infantile fantasy" that's ever been proven is that being unarmed and entirely helpless in some magical way makes any situation magically more survivable...except for the killers, of course.
