We manage to elect our Senators, Reps, Governors and every other elected official with a popular vote, I do not see your scenario as a legitimate threat. Is it any better to have a entity that if desired, could negate the popular vote and elect someone else?

The reason I want the EC gone is so that 1. My vote in TX counts and 2. open up the possibility that we get an actual multi party system instead of the Dem/Rep BS we have now. Might actually give the Libertarians and other groups a real voice in the system.

Switzerland - voters reg is all that is required
Canada - 2 of 45 different types if ID if photo ID is not available
Sweden - if the clerk does not know the person, some sort of ID to verify to the satisfaction of the clerk.
India - property doc, arms licenses ration cards
Denmark - no ID needed
Australia - none needed
New Zealand - none required
UK - none required


Spain, Greece, France, Malta, Belgium, and Italy all automatically issue ID to all citizens.

Germany - Voter registration ID
Netherlands - photo required.
Finland - Unique ID assigned at birth (sounds like our SS#)
