Nothing like good old made in the USA technology.....

WASHINGTON (AP) - A missile launched from a Navy cruiser soared 130 miles above the Pacific and smashed a dying and potentially deadly U.S. spy satellite Wednesday, the Pentagon said. Several defense officials said it apparently achieved the main aim of destroying an onboard tank of toxic fuel.

The missile alone cost nearly $10 million, and officials estimated that the total cost of the project was at least $30 million.

Cha-Ching....Cha-Ching

When they can hit an unannounced target from an unknown origin in the 1/2 hour (or less) it takes a ICBM to get from launch point to impact I'll be impressed.

It is still pretty impressive. The Aegis system was not originally designed to knock down satellites in orbit. It was meant to shot down swarms of Soviet anti-ship missiles.

Shot from a bobbing ship at sea.....then intercepting a moving object traveling around

17,500 MPH,with an intercept window of some 3 seconds........I see your point Gar.

Do you think the country/group that launches a missile at us will be so kind as to let us know all the details so we can set up the ships in the right place and get the times so we can take it out as well? Hopefully there will not be more than one missile fired at a time.

Yes hitting the satellite was impressive. Real life will not be nearly that easy. The odds of a SDI actually working in a real life scenario are remote at best. The bomb will probably b floated into a harbor anyway so the issue is moot.

Thats why eternal vigilance is so utterly important. You do not need some pussy whipped liberal decimating the US military for the next 4 or 8 years in the face of extremists.

And yes, real life has shown our technology to be very very impressive.

Vigilance will not let us know when the ICBM is inbound.

How could the military be decimated any more than it already has been? The VA cannot keep up with the wounded, the ground forces are not getting the armor they need, the leadership is getting missions they are not capable of fulfilling. And you are worried about what the next 4-8 years will bring? You should have been more worried about the past 8 years. Then we would not be in the mess in the first place.

I know I know... it's Clinton's fault. It's like the past 7 years never happened....it's all Clinton.

Vigilance and a good intel network would hopefully give some inkling of an aggressive event coming off.Our intel capabilities were neglected during Bills reign of sexual proclivities and it takes time to rebuild assets and such.Bush inherited a broken army when he took office if you remember. All this hoopla over the VA on Bush's watch.....it wasn't much better under past administrations.....there was money given but in the end the problems were so far out of proportion it was a wasted effort.

But who "created" more wounded veterans that are dependent on the VA?

If you create the problem (or make it worse), and it is recognizable in your administration, you should step-up to the plate and and help solve the problem.

Can you point out to the class what W has done to improve the military over the past 7 years?

He hasn't had much of a chance as his campaign goals were sidelined by a bunch of

religious zealots a mere eight months after he took office causing him to divert from plans

of rebuilding a neglected and decimated military machine to going onto a war footing.

That short instance of time altered a lot of his administration plans and goals forever I bet.

You neglected to see that didn't you.

This is exaclty where the difference lies: You - and many others - believe that a "bunch of religious zealots" sidelined his campaign goals.

I - and many others - believe that Bush's Iraq war was his goal prior to being sworn in and he just used the "bunch of religious zealots" as pretext for the War in Iraq. In my opinion, Bush's so-called campaign goals would have been "sidetracked" regardless of 9/11 because he was going to start a war in Iraq regardless. Thus, I think he was already willing to "dump" his campaign promises in order to rehash his daddy's war.
