What Airlines Were Trying For The China Flights?

An earlier post stated the announcement would come on the 21st.

I also was told by Continental reservation that it would be made the week of the 17th.

So, all the information is the same - we are all getting the same information from different sources.

I will be excited if AA should receive the approval, however, with the announcement that CO is hiring in EWR and the new planes leads me to question if it is them. An earlier post stated that CO was asking for the approval to China from EWR. However, I will still hold out hope for AA. It ain't over till it is over.

Continental is hiring in EWR for a very similar reason to AA's recalling furloughees. People are quitting and there is a shortage--particularly among reserve f/as. Most CO new hires go to EWR. The last hired (2001) are still stuck at EWR because there have been no transfers or additional hiring since 9/11. A number of those at EWR are quitting because they can't transfer to IAH. Continental is being very upfront about this new hiring--that it is for reserve f/as at EWR, period.

Even if AA does not get ORD-PVG will they still recall some flight attendants for ORD-NGO and DFW-KIX?

We did just offer several hundred leaves that began 1/1 and expire in April. Perhaps their return to the line will support the routes.

TWA had a f/a base in Hong Kong for years. Why would you assume that there are no Chinese speakers among the former TWA flight attendants?

I don't know. I wasn't even thinking about them. No big deal. Just a curious question on my part. Didn't mean much by it.

Where do you get this info? I wasn't even aware of this overlage leave.

He is talking about bid leaves, NOT overage leaves. They offered 4 month bid leaves. I am pretty sure they were offered system wide. Maybe you missed the HI6. We had them at both ORD and IOR.

Will the decision be announced tomorrow or Friday ?

Can't wait to hear that AA gets the route.

I probably did or paid no attention to it since it didn't pertain to me. Thanks!

Any ideas on when the China award will be announced? Heard rumors that it would be this week, but we're rapidly approaching the close of business and haven't heard a peep.

If this drags out much beyond February 1, whoever gets the nod for this year's award will barely have time to put it out for sale.... The January 21st date was a best-guess for two reasons.

First, if there's going to be any hope of starting the route by May or June, the announcement needed to allow for 30 days to allow show-cause arguments and about 90 days to get ground handling contracts in place and people trained. January 21st more or less marks the outside of that window.

Second, nobody expected an announcement to be made until right after the inauguration on the 20th.
