What "Comprehensive" Changes are Coming?

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

$110 bbl. ??.........$120 bbl. ??,..........$130 bbl. ??
Just remember what BIG DICK said............"STAY TUNED"

All of which affect NW and your precious as well. I, and everybody else here are still waiting for an educated answer. Care to contribute one for once, or are we once again going to be subjected to your incoherent walk down memory lane?

Once again Bear, define a global carrier
Explain why DL is in the dire situation that you claim.

I eagerly await your response.

#2.,...Since DL is like a "3rd string QB", in SA, I'd say they should have focused much sooner, would'nt you agree.

#2., "More than DL" !!! With ALL the DL flights out of JFK, when does it COST MONEY for that operation ?

$110 bbl. ??.........$120 bbl. ??,..........$130 bbl. ??
Just remember what BIG DICK said............"STAY TUNED"
Do you really think AA is somehow immune from the effects of sky-high oil prices, and DL is the only airline with big changes coming?

NewHampshireBlackBear...

DL has a greater percentage of Q1 and 2008 fuel needs hedged than do NW and AA...

Grab your ankles pertains to the industry, not just DL.

Get off the horse or is it stuck somewhere?

"96",

Answer....NO(to both your questions)

DL to me, is an Interesting "case study" !
For one thing, I think that DL has vastly overextended itself in NY.
Now I don't say, that they are NOT currently making Money on a Lot of their JFK flights, but I WONDER, as OIL keeps going UP, (And BOY is it going to CONTINUE to keep going UP), if DL finds that overall their NY operation will be COSTING them Money to operate.

They've been Mismanaged for YEARS,(guess thats why they wound up "BEFORE the JUDGE"), I think Anderson's arrival Is too LATE to make a difference(thanx to OIL).
They could have managed CVG/Comair MORE effectively, as compared to NW/MSP/Compass.

HEY,
In the end, it's going to be a "wait and see" situation.

As the OIL(vise) turns tighter, I'll be watching to see, how DL fares in comparrison to UA/CO/NW/US.

I KNOW how they'll fare, compared to AA !!!!!!!!!

To quote a current Airline CEO................"STAY TUNED"

Uh-oh, NWA CEO Mr. Steenland says "belt-tightening" to take place at NWA, INCLUDING LAYOFFS!!!

And AA is next!!

delta777,...luv2fly,

Don't have HEART ATTACKS but..............I AGREE with you both, that layoffs (99%) will happen to every one, given the current situation.

As for that RAT A$$ED faced bastard Steenland, I APPLAUDE him for raising prices BIG TIME, and HOPE that AA/UA/DL/NW/and CO have the BALLS to raise them, and STICK to it.

Let all these flyers who wants BUS FARE prices, fly WN/Air Tran/Jet BLUE.

"OH" those carriers DON'T go to your city, TOUGH SH!T, fly one of those carriers that DO fly there " !!

If EVERY passenger is honest with themselves, HOW in HEL* do they expect the legacys to stay in business, let alone (GOD FORBID) make any money, charging $99 fares.

Now to the "rest of the story",

What happens AFTER the layoffs, and as OIL continues to rise ?

The LAW of the JUNGLE will kick in.

Nowhere in the article does he specifically mention layoffs.

In the full message to employees cited by the AJC, he mentiones other belt tightening, such as judicious use of APUs and emphasizes the importance of other fuel saving initiatives already in place (all good ideas, IMO).

Furloughs wouldn't suprise me in the least, but it'd only small dent as there's really no fat left to cut;most stations are already running short as it is. NW's problem is that it usually cuts through the fat, past the bone and into the marrow. They then have to play catch up when service/operational failures occur.

More likely I would imagine any hiring (across the board) comes to a grinding halt, and those that are here will be expected to do even more with less, as any attrition/open positions will go unfilled.....

On the flight ops side, look for marginal routes and/or frequencies to go "poof." I would imagine a pulldown of 9E CRJ-200 flying to some degree will also occur.

P.S. In true Steenland/NWA style, this info was in the same weekly message as his thanks to all the employees for working hard and acheiving such a high profit last year.

"Thanks for everything you do. Now hit the unemployment line."

MORE importantly...he did NOT mention Fuel Hedging...He better have one damn GOOD excuse for this one. Including why he saw fit to throw $1/2 BILLION at Mid West, then turn around with NO HEDGED FUEL.

I'm a shareholder, and you can bet your sweet nickle I will be at the meeting THIS year with my big curious mouth asking why, and WHO was in charge!

Indeed he didn't. At least not specifically. He did however, say, "Higher prices will result in fewer passengers", Steenland said, "and the size of the airline will need to reflect that."

Which, in CEO lingo means layoffs/furloughs.

Which in NW CEO speak means=

"Don't look at me! I thought there were fuel hedges in Iraq"

(hey, did my bonus check clear yet?)
