Didn't the United Shuttle start around 1994 or 1995?

And, in the 1970's, I think the name was "Friendship Express," or something like that.

Since it's 2004, and they are trying it again...what do you think the name of the new "airline within an airline" will be in 2014? Seems like United does this every ten years.

intelligent observer,

Perhaps closer attention would not have you being a misnomer in the "observer" department.

UAL shuttered the shuttle in 2001 after parking over 100 aircraft in Nov after the events of 9/11. To fill the void of the lack of airframes UAL outsourced many stations to the UAX carriers and upgauged many of the shuttle flights with 757's some 767's at times and a320's. At the same time they reduced the frequency of the flights in the Shuttle city pairs. This reduction could hardly be termed a shuttle and the moniker was removed.

TED is not a shuttle. TED is more like a class of service as opposed to an airline. You might consider TED to be the "Fun" class of UAL service. TED is not intended to fly the west coast corridor and is primarily geared to leisure destinations.

The cost advantages of TED are more significant than when UAL opeated the shuttle. The crews work longer hours for the month are paid significantly less than the non-LCC fleets of the 757/767,777 and 747. The pilots have higher monthly caps on flying and are not guaranteed a minimum hours per day. This alone is a huge savings to UAL. With the F/A's taking paycuts and the IAM contribuiting vast cuts in wages and workers (no longer doing pushbacks) the new UAL (including TED ) is very lean.

Your sarcasm is not necessary.

Unfortunately, I have flown UA, and see that, sadly, your rudeness is not restricted to you among UA employees.

It seems to me, given the precarious state of your company, that you would be nicer in a public forum.

"Cute New Planes, Same Old Problems"

(The title of the BW article cited above)

With responses like that from Magasu, they should have added,

"SAME OLD UNITED ATTITUDE"

Keep going...you represent your employer well.

With employees like you, UA doesn't need competitors, they will put themselves out of business.

Just an "observation" but weren't you the one that prompted the type of responses you've received? Then proceeded to chastise everyone when you'd gotten exactly what you'd sparked? Not very "intelligent", indeed.

Had you behaved that way in the airport or on the aircraft, it would be the last time you would have had the pleasure of flying their airline.

Just sign me another satisfied, intelligent, and observant United customer.

There is nothing sarcastic or rude about the original post. It was merely an observation and some conjecture.

You state, "Had you behaved that way in the airport or on the aircraft, it would be the last time you would have had the pleasure of flying their airline." You have just proved my point about United having humorless, rude employees. Observations such as these would NOT get someone kicked off an airplane, unless, of course, you are dealing with the UA "prison matrons." No wonder people are flocking to customer-driven airlines, such as JetBlue.

This will be my last comment to or about you, IO. If you were able to comprehend my point regarding behavior either in the airport or on the aircraft, then you would have understood that I was referring to you goading the employees with your comments. If you choose to believe that what you'd originally posted was in any way a positive, you have my sincerest sympathies.

"Prison Matrons"???? You don't know airline "prison matrons" unless you've ever flown Interflug! 😛

I can see that the financial difficulties of the company are really getting to all of you UA people. You are all so tightly wound.

Good way to attract and keep customers. Unfortunately, typical.

I thought you were asking for some humor, but I guess my "Interflug" comment went over your head. But that's OK, I thought it was at least mildly funny.

And I've got a news flash for you, Sparky. Not everyone who disagrees with your comments is an employee of United -- me, for instance. Just so you clearly understand, I don't work for United or any other airline. But given my line of work, I do have a pretty good understanding of the airline industry. You'll just have to trust me on that.

Had an engineer friend that went to Ingterflug after the wall fell for consulting. He asked about the fuel consumpution on their IL-62's, the answer was "It depends" he asked why. Each one leaked fuel at a different rate, so range and consumption varied by plane!

Only flew that turkey once, Czech Air, was supposed to be a A310, they were quite embarrased by the switch.

Don't worry...I got your humor re Interflug...My subsequent comments were not directed at you.
