Delta is offering free transportation to any immediate family member who wants to reach Roanoke/Blacksburg, Va., in the wake of Monday’s shootings at Virginia Tech that killed more than 30. Delta will be working directly with the office of the school’s dean of students to arrange transportation for any immediate family member who requests it. Delta Connection carriers Atlantic Southeast Airlines and Comair serve the communities, and we’ve arranged for extra aircraft to stand by in Atlanta and Cincinnati if needed.

“Delta extends its condolences to all those affected by this horrible tragedy and will do everything possible to assist Virginia Tech, the families of victims and the entire Roanoke/Blacksburg community in responding to this tragedy,â€￾ Delta said in a statement Monday.

Has US responded in any way? If so, I can't find it.

US doesn't have extra aircraft. They barely can run their operation with what they do have.

ROA were is that? OH yea! It use to be a HUB
US should be all over this Tragic event

US used to be the number 1 carrier in ROA (might still be)... but as recently as 2001, it was a good mix of mainline/express. Now it's all express with some CRJs thrown in to say ROA has some jet service.

I'd love to have the F28 or DC9 back in service from there. <sigh>

All of the above my be true, but I'm looking for any response from US as this used to be a major station for US and US has long ties to this community.

Does any one know of any US response?

Tempe never heard of ROA...they are still trying to find out if you need a passport.

FYI, I grew up in VA north of ROA so not real far from Blacksburg. Like some else stated, US should be all over this, Hope I'm wrong but don't expect anything.
WAY TO GO DELTA Thank you:

Our company will do nothing concerning this event , 1 it would not be cost effective to offer free rides , 2 the media attention would not be signifigant enough for marketing to give the green light on something like this and three US AIR DOESN'T CARE...

Get used to it people , this isn't a charity , this is a low cost carrier .

I think what is being suggested, is that USAirways offer to carry immediate family members to ROA free of charge on scheduled flights. Kind of what U did in AUA for the Hollaway Family durring the search for their daughter. Nothing more then offering FREE Transportation to ROA on scheduled flights.

What is it you want US to do? Their flights are full and they are short aircraft.

Ummmm, nothing, it's too late - Delta beat everyone else to it. BRILLIANT PR move on their part and an earnest effort to be a good corporate citizen.

I'm not going to fault US on this one as people are still in shock at this tragedy. BUT, it does suggest that Delta has a more "can do" management style. I got to hand it to them, this was a very nice gesture!
