I've seen postings regarding PHL and CLT but has anything leaked about how Sky Harbor would change as a result of the merger?

With the introduction of DL's widebodies into the US network, it's likely that PHX will see new int'l routes - Europe and Asia.

Only a DL 777 could make it to Europe and shifting them off of ATL or JFK would be a hard sell. PHX will have to wait for the 350 or the 787. When one of those comes around then I would bet on LGW and FRA(assuming Star member)

True about the need for 777s, but some of the ATL/JFK to Europe routes would be fine w/ 767s that are now in domestic use.

Does anyone know what DP said about the future of LAS? Even now I'm not sure if Vegas is considered a hub or a focus city?

LAS has always been a great place to run aircraft at night that otherwise would be doing nothing. I'm sure DP would continue to use it in such a fashion.

Didn't LTU run 767's from DUS to PHX?

PHX could certainly support a flight to CDG and FRA.

And a 4x a week to Asia would be loaded with cargo both ways, and with good feed would do well.

There is room for one more pier on the N side of Terminal 4 if I recall correctly, that would add another 12 gates or so.

Delta recently announced an order for B-777-LRs, which have the ability to connect virtually any two cities around the globe, nonstop. Delta plans to take delivery of these aircraft in early 2008.

PHX would see FRA, and FRA only. CDG does not warrant the year round connection opportunities to LH, which is the key.

Folks, you are way, way ahead of yourselves. Might I suggest you worry about what you are going to bid or non-rev after the creditors and the court decide on who will control whatever Delta emerges from reorganization.

Yes, they flew once a week service from PHX to DUS with 767-300s and then later upgraded to MD-11s. Those flights were always packed, too! Germans LOVE Arizona and the great Southwest!

 Bravo! Thank you for a sane post. Why don't we sit back and digest the possible merger before this mess gets off the ground. Enjoy Thanksgiving while you are at it, I am sure Parker made the holidays pretty miserable for the other half of the equation. This poker game is JUST BEGINNING....

Yes, they love coming out when it is the hottest and most desolate.

I wish the LTU flights lasted, but they were only a few days a week. Maybe LH will come back.

If the merger goes through, there will be a lot more traffic in PHX, which is good.

When the anti airport noise folks were whining, Sky Harbor put out a great ad, "It would be a LOT more quiet without us!"

This is fun albeit premature specualtion but I could see a combined airline where PHX eventual looks a lot like ATL except feeding the Pacific Rim. That might be 1o years down the road but ATL & PHX as the main international hubs, "Int. focus cities" in LAX and the PHL/NY area. Could be sweet!
