Please note this is on PlaneBuzz, and not the editorial in an undisclosed newspaper which seems to have been posted on another thread....
Isn't PlaneBuzz affiliated with Southwest? IIRC, there is a connection.

Her brother is a retired pilot, but if you read what she's written in the past three years, it's pretty clear there's no LUV between her and Southwest. If anything, she's more connected to the unions, who frequently bring her in as a paid speaker.

If you get a chance rent or buy "The Corporation" from Zeitgeist Video. Milton Friedman makes some intesting comments in it.

Its unbelievable how Free Marketeers want the free market until they screw up-then they demand corporate welfare.
Own a copy! Great film. Want to really get pissed off? Read Shock Doctrine: The rise of disaster capitalism,by Naomi Kline. Summed up its about how these free market goons can't get their "free markets" going unless there is some kind of natural disaster, war or threat (real or perceived) to shock and awe the population into submiting to the constraints of "free market" ie. privitazation, derregulation and deep cuts in social programs. Of course there will be resistance due to the unemployment and inflation caused by this "free market." That's when the dissidents get rounded up, murdered and disappered. In the name of "free markets" of course. She gives numerous example of places where the shock doctine has been applied. On September 11 it was applied mercilessly. That is September 11, 1973 in Chile; where the CIA aided the tin horn murderer Pinochet oust democratically elected Salvador Allende . All in the name of installing a "free market" and keeping the "marxists" out of Chile. Marxists, the Al Qaida of the day.

It is all about the pup. When "pull together win together" made sense, most people were on board. With the modest profits of the last few quarters, excessive executive bonuses have alienated everyone in labor. Sadly, the reply from centreport is that the employees don't understand "executive compensation". These guys are burning down the house for a short term money grab. Anyone who knows the operation will tell you, the maintaince of the airplanes was really gone downhill over the last 2-3 years. The MD-80 problem may only be a sign of things to come. We will see when they announce next week, how much the exec bonuses are, and how we cannot afford to compensate the employees who are married to the company with their seniority.

Truth is, that if the FAA wanted to - they could shut down any airline at anytime for similar variences in how certain jobs were accomplished. The MX of AAs A/C has gone downhill since AA decided to implement the MSG 3 program. Close and reduce class 2 station staffing. Add to that the bad morale, nothing but bad news day after freakin day. Do more with less people and no parts.... It was a cost savings plan that wasn't really well thought out.

It's going to take some time for the company to admit the mistake so the blame can be dispersed. Also the new computer program that stores uses to control parts system wide is a complete failure; unfortunately, a huge investment.
Could be longer to get rid of that program.

The executive bonuses are part of the problem. None of our so called leaders are that talented to warrent these obscene payouts, regardless of what some of the other businesses are paying their leaders. Everybody knows it and sees it, and it pisses them off. When is enough enough?

I've seen it. It was boring, droll and nauseatingly repetitive. It was about two hours too long. It had a lot of good information but, there is just so much Chomsky-type whining a person can take!

"Who Can Handle the Truth"?

What is the TRUTH and where does one go to find it?

No wonder you were bored. No explosions, car chases or female breasteses....and no NASCAR!

No, actually the model for the free trade goons, which you bootlick so much is: China, a totalitarian feudal state. We are a good way down that road!

X-Files. You're pretty clever. Here's another "commie" for ya! A two time Medal of Honor recipient to boot.
"...I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism."
