I can't wait for these inbread inner city morons to go crawling to AA or CAL with their "date of hire or nothing" mentality after giving Delta the middle finger!

Ahhh...A statement ringing with TRUTH!
Not merely a coincidence that "Dick" Anderson comes out of aviation retirement (via United Health Care) to reenter the aviation industry. And where does he land??? DELTA.
Dick.. "Dougie, you run nwa into the ground after I leave taking the heat for ruining the company.
Dougie.."But Dick, I'll have to go on TV...I don't look as good as you on TV"
Dick.... "You'll look like a hero for barely saving the airline after those dirtbag mechanics are out of the picture.
Dougie.."Yea, I hate mechanics...they used to pick on me in school"
Dick... "The other milk toast unions will fall in line"
Dougie.."Yea, the flight attendants beat me up too when I was in school"
Dick.. "Focus buddy..I'll come back from United Health Care and take that job they are saving for me at Delta"
Dougie.."How does that help me?"
Dick.. "Your thick...We merge the two companies and make a fortune in bonusses plus giving ourselves a healthy raise to boot!"
Dougie.."Ooooo..I like raises!
Dick.. "Whew...Then we'll get rid of one of the identities and go with ONE BIG AIRLINE...I WILL BE KING...I WILL RULE THE SKIES.."
Dougie.."What about me king?"
Dick" "Er..ah..you'll be living in the lap of luxury in the Bahamas. No worries..I'll handle everything <_< "

Would that be like when Delta asks US for DOH? I heard Parker was smelling around for Wall Street money to use on the "I told you so" card with Delta. Hedge Funds have given the Delta BOD it's orders. Cash and Cash NOW.

We will see how far your financials get you in 2-3 years with oil at $103. I believe there is a $4 Billion dollar Delta note due in 4 years no?

I think you can safely say that there are 26,000 Northwest employees (excluding pilots) standing firmly behind Oberstar and every other Minn. politician against this giveaway. IF...they announce a deal, you will see a whirl wind of battle lines drawn...it will fail to be approved, and the present NW BOD and Steeland will have pissed away the Golden Share.

I think the good people of Delta had better look out for themselves with their standalone plan. NW folks will be giving up nothing...we don't have to. I think Dick and Dougie just weren't expecting this kind of fight (it hasn't even really begun). They thought if Doug did the dirty work we'd run to Dick. Well...we all know that Dick is the real snake of the two.

All of us can celebrate when they have said it's finished. Then we can run our show, and Delta can run theirs.

p.s cap scud, you will crawl for mercy from a predator airline looonnnggg before Northwest does...the crystal ball of "BALANCE SHEET FINANCIALS" says so.

Couple of questions North--
1. This is the second time I've heard of this 4 billion dollar note...where do I find more info on that?

2. Why isn't NW in talks to merge w/ CO?? Then the golden share is a moot point.

I will find the link for it.

2. NW and Delta are in cahoots on this scheme. It has been planned for a long time. There is no reason whatsoever (with NW's financials) that it should not be purchasing, if it has the urge to merge. The ONLY reason that is not playing out is, a purchase would force Steenland to remain (and earn his $26.6 over 4 years). It would also make it highly unlikely that any airline would go willingly under NW because of the bad blood between the current pack of thieves and Labor. No offense to Delta folks, but Cont. would be the only management I would trust as a merger partner.

There is no financial reason for NW to merge when it has alliances that gives it all the benefits of a huge global route structure. Delta/NW will slash jobs and the pilots know it, that is why they have every intention of protecting seniority.

If oil is a concern at $103 for "two" airlines, why wouldn't be for a "Super airline"? Answer, shrink the Super airline for profit..getting rid of those on the bottom. I believe when push comes to shove, Delta will get rid of non union employees like a house fire. This is the "new" Delta after all...which includes an "old" Northwest CEO.

Excellent points NxNW, about BIG RED.
I tried IN VAIN to explain to some of the DL folks about "deal...or (not needing) to deal"

While you and I know that the 6 airlines are "ranked" in the following manner;

1. AA
2. UA
3. DL
4. CO
5. NW
(6. WN)
7. US,

We know that when it comes to Pure stand alone, (for a LOT of the reasons that you put forth),
the sequence goes;
1.AA
2.UA
5.NW,
However, that was'nt "received" to well. What can I say..NxNW. As you know,....It IS what it IS !!!!!!!!!

North--Not sure if this link was supposed to answer the ? about the $4bil DL note but there wasn't any mention of it. I decided to Google it and nothing came up. While I didn't find anything on the note, I found this article. It just shows how anyone can come out of the woodwork and put their 2cents worth in...This guys says the merger will be announced this week anyway (uhm, it's Wed. already). Thought you might find it entertaining.

No Luke, that link was for something else.

I have been trying to find it. I believe I read it in the AJC the Atlanta paper. (just a few days ago) I will take a look at the SEC filings when I have time.

Thanks for the article, it was a good read. Northwest (employees) are not going to give up it's name and history, massive financial sacrifices, and VERY bright standalone future just to please a Delta Hedge Fund and a slimy NW BOD looking for a payout. Everyone of them along with Stealin is despised boardering on pure hatred by 98% of the NW employees (of course 50% of NW pilots would sell their grandmother for an extra dollar). There will be a very nasty fight before / IF this merger takes place. We don't want it, and will do all we can to prevent it. As I am sure there are many Delta employees who feel the same. Without a Union they will be left to the whim of the courts. There is a big difference between (NWA's FAs) contractual DOH (which MUST be understood in document exchange BEFORE completion of a merger), and "fair and equitable" as in Delta's slotting in of PAA, which could be what happens to Delta FAs.

Remember, there has NEVER been a merger attempt of this size in airline history.

If the NW pilots agree to this, I hope they are the first set into the street during the next downturn. Let them taste the same brick sandwich served 5,000 NW mechanics (whom were fired in prep for the merger).

I will tell you this...the Unions at NW already have an army of lawyers lined up for battle. This will be an extremely costly merger for the surviving entity.

I may have spoken too soon....a report just out says NW/DL pilots are meeting again in Washington today.

I understand how you feel North, but not having a contract (Some of us are trying-- our vote should be in April), I feel that I have to make the best of what could be an uncomfortable situation. I hope if we join up that you won't paint all of us DL people with a broad brush. I have to admit that I think that many of my coworkers have a certain amount of arrogance, like they are insulated from things. But we're not all like that. (A few of us NON-sheeple slipped through the cracks!) 😉

None of this is directed to the Delta rank and file. This monster is being driven by Delta Hedge Funds...at any cost/ and NW management/ pilot greed. NW is not the acquirer because they have plans of de-unionizing NW, and NW management wants OUT..with cash. Besides, what sane company would sell their employees into a vicious battle field such as NW.

Like I said, they can announce till the cows come home, that's ONLY when the War against this thing commences. It will be a long and costly battle that may destroy any value a Hedge fund may think it will realize.

For those Delta employees whom think this will be ANYTHING like the mergers of past (therefore, they don't need a Union)...are in for 21st century battle shock.

I know one thing...the NWA BOD is in store for a thorough microscopic examination. There has been plenty of lawyers in the past whom thought they were more clever than others, namely politicians with power, and they ended up in jail. If we lose the "Golden Share" for a failed merger attempt, there will be hell to pay.

Luke, it's in the Delta 10k annual, page 39. It is around $4 Billion a year for the next two years (excluding contract carrier obligations which is another $2 Billion). Staggering debt compared to what they wrung out of the paychecks of NW employees (NW 10k annual page 62 comparison). Which is why I predict NW employees will not give up the company without a fight.
