Noted site is up from DMN website article. He's in great shape and makes you wonder, doesn't it? I used to think of Bob as THE MAN when your at war with other airlines, not so much making peace internally though. He was fair, tough and (almost) always a step ahead of the competition.

He's already said no at an industry function just after the filing. As I've said, he's not going to sully his reputation, and none of the current leadership, save perhaps Horton, are people he groomed for his executive suite. Bob went out with AMR making record profits.

If he comes back and AA tanks, that's what people will remember.

IF (uncle) Bobby were to "ride back into town", the first SOB's gone would be PARKER and KIRBY . (well maybe not Parker, but RLC would stick him in some safe-from-interference, figurehead job) !

I wouldn't be so sure of that...this is a quote from Crandall on a local DFW radio station the last Friday after the announcement.

Former American CEO Robert Crandall spoke exclusively with KRLD NewsRadio 1080 and said that while US Airways may have made deals with the unions at American, they haven’t done that with their own unions.

“The unions at US Air itself have not been able to agree with one another, and with the management at US Air, about what the labor contracts at US Air should say. I must say that that’s a vastly complicating aspect of trying to put the two companies together,” Crandall said.

However, Crandall said he believes the merger is a good idea in the long run, because the combined US Air/AA company would be able to compete with the large-scale business services provided by both United and Delta Airlines.

“It may very well be that putting these two together, in one way or another, makes some sense. Whether this is the right way to do it, I think at this juncture, is open to discussion.”

With a (hypo) merger of this size, the only way to do it would be "straight across the board" Date of hire"
Sure the AW guys would piss and moan, but more than likely the US/AA guys would agree.

There are ALL the parts needed (INTERNALLY)(meaning assets from AW/US/AA) to assemble a # 1 USA airline. (to be added to One World) If carefully "cherry-picked", this could work !!!

Lol, good luck with that one. Has a DOH SIL happened in the last 15 years?(for a union+union list)?

At US/HP on the csa / fleet groups as far as I know. Perhaps mtc as well...

Almost a surprise with the big push to ratios.

Still think their is no way in hell the pilot SIL will be pretty. Personally think the F/As could be ugly too.

AA has already tanked, there's only upside for a manager like Bob ( if he were to make such a stupid move) I've met Bob and his mentor Albert Casey years many years ago. Much has changed since Al days and Bob ran when he could see that the only way an airline can work is to have an open line of credit ( open union contracts that could be changed at will ). This is all due to both deregulation, the Internet, and the revolving door policies of the bankruptcy laws.

These items are not going away anytime soon. The US public will not stand for any real changes, resulting in substantial fare increases. Finally, lawmakers are afraid of consumer backlash in the voting booth.

Sorry but Bob may sound like a good talking head on the radio but he is just another fossil in the legacy airline cemetary.

I wouldn't go that far but - the real question is if the BOD would ask him back. Too many of the BOD "connections" stand to lose far too much and, rest assured, the board is being bombarded re: the rumors as many managers know they'd be history IF Uncle Bob were to return.

OK the only way I could see a micro manager like Bob to succeed at AMR now is start a house cleaning beginning with the BOD. That could only be done if he agreed to be the manager after the company ( with the unions on board ) were bought out and made private as in the Carl Icahn - TWA scenario, ( not going to happen ).

The bottom line is...Airline are a sinkhole.

I am going to ask Bob Crandall to come back just to run TUL Dock 1D.

He can't do any worse and we might get an airplane out on time.
