Work to rule and overtime ban allowed in Australia.... not in America where judges and courts are company owned....

So Australian laws are different than US federal law. Now that's a major surprise. They also talk funny down there.

Wasn't Austrailia formed as a penal? That would make them criminals and probably fail their Drug Test......

Also worth noting that Australia practices voluntary unionism.

Closed shops and compulsory "agency fees" for non-members were outlawed in 1997.

I'm all for it. Before the 2003 APA contract debacle, we had an open shop. If you wanted to be a @#$% and not pay and be a non-member, it was permitted. we also had the highest percentage of pilot union members of any US airline including all ALPA (Majors probably). In the 2003 deal, APA made it a closed shop to get the p##sed TWA guys to pay. It was also to keep 50% of current guys from resigning to protest the badly negotiated deal.

Get rid of the RLA. Let idiot Management and idiot union leaders deal with each other today instead of slowly killing each other with decade long knifefights.
A happy medium for long term survival will be identified and adhered to rather quickly.

To be fair, I don't think AA couldn't be a closed shop as long as two-stripers were still around, and the same position of FE was being done by both APA and FEIA members.

But yes, I agree that getting rid of the RLA would do more good than harm. TWU and IAM want to keep it because as much as they hate the NMB process, they're more afraid of an open shop. As long as the union can show a value, they should have nothing to fear.

It would be very hard to convince myself and many others that the TWU can show value in anything. If anything is sure the TWU is only in the game for one thing, that is to get as many dues payng members as possible for the contributions to the collective democratic party, without the complete acknowledgement of it's members.

The assurance of employment in this closed shop does not grant the TWU the right to play politics with our money without our consent.

Agency fee en masse is the only method that would make them even consider changing their DNC Compulsory Dues Contribution Plan.

Honestly, what would that cost the TWU? $5 a month per person? What is the difference in the agency pay bill as opposed to the full meal deal? I realize that it all adds up, I just don't think it would kill them that much. They would just cut some office supplies and maybe some union publications to cover the difference.

Granted, it's only a 10-12% reduction in dues, but the added expense of sending certified letters out on a regular basis would prove costly to not only the treasury but also the treasurers sanity, which in turn would creep up the chain of command like a wedgie. If even several hundred participated there would be a ripple in the force.
