Aa Drops Jfk - Phx & Jfk - Lgb

Not surprising. Phoenix was a way to screw Yields for AWA. I read yesterday from AA that research showed if given the same price people prefer LAX over LGB. With almost a dozen flights in that market to LAX. Go to where the people want while matching the fare and you will keep your customers from going to the competition.

Just admit it. AA surrendered to JetBlue on that market.

American Will Discontinue JFK-Long Beach and JFK-Phoenix Service, Effective Nov. 1

AA Continues to Offer 11 Daily Nonstops JFK-Los Angeles
FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines announced today that it will discontinue its daily nonstop service between New York's Kennedy Airport and Long Beach and between JFK and Phoenix, effective Nov. 1. American said the airplanes it uses on those routes will be reassigned to its Dallas/Fort Worth Hub to support the previously announced expansion there.

American and its regional affiliate, American Eagle, will add at least 70 departures at DFW by the summer of 2005. The increase will bring American's total mainline jet departures at DFW to 540 a day, the highest in the airline's DFW history.

"The process of strengthening our network and building our presence at DFW continues," said Henry C. Joyner, American's Senior Vice President - Planning. "And as it does, we will continue to move aircraft resources to the markets where they can be used most productively and best serve our customers. These market choices are particularly critical at a time when we and the rest of the industry are feeling the financial impact of soaring fuel prices."

American operates two flights a day on the JFK-Long Beach route and one flight a day from JFK to Phoenix.

American said customers in the New York area with plans to fly to Southern California can do so on any of its 11 daily nonstop flights between JFK and Los Angeles, or on any of literally hundreds of connecting options between JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Stewart Airport or White Plains and Los Angeles, Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario, Orange County, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara or San Diego.

Whatever you say.

FA Mikey is right.

AA is finally realizing (and admitting) that B6 and their flights to LGB aren't half the problem for AA as Tower Air was when it flew $99 transcons to LAX. THAT was a problem.

LGB and ONT are great if you live near them; useless if you don't or if you want to connect to go somewhere else.

AA's AFS service JFK-LAX will continue just fine as long as the Hollywood/New York crowd continue to buy tickets. B6 isn't carrying too many celebs to LGB, and won't unless they offer something besides live TV and blue chips. B)

And with UAL all set to fly 3 class 757s JFK-LAX later this month, AA should continue doing real well on this route. :D

On top of all that, American Eagle is dropping service at Islip. "American also confirmed Monday that it was pulling its American Eagle regional service from Islip Airport on New York's Long Island, where Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Co. has a fast-growing operation." Not very good news.

American Airlines dropping service.

There hasn't been a significant AMR presence at ISP for at least five years.

Don't overestimate the significance of this announcement. AA dropped 4 trips a day out of over 2300. A whopping 0.17% of AA's route structure, and a smaller portion of AA's ASM's.

Yep. That's a real win for Jetbleu, Wing.

Except that AA isn't leaving LGB. 5x a day to DFW, and wouldn't be surprised to see AA add a sixth.

And, on the same day the LGB/PHX nonstops go away, a fourth JFK-DFW trip is added between the current 1400 and 1800 departures.

Agree entirely with Mikey's assessment. This can only help JFK-LAX.
