American Airlines Named Official Airline Of The Chicago Cubs And Wrigley Field

Who is writing AA's press releases? From the first paragraph of this one:

American Airlines, which has operated from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) for more than 30 years, is strengthening its ties with Chicago by becoming the Official Airline of the Chicago Cubs and historic Wrigley Field. American has signed a long-term Legacy Partnership with the Cubs, one of the most beloved franchises in Major League Baseball.
"More than 30 years"? It's actually more than 50 years, not 30, and next year will be the 60th anniversary of AA's presence at ORD.

AA's ORD hub is more than 30 years old, as mentioned later on in the press release.

When you're writing a press release, there's no need to be humble or modest. The whole idea is to toot your own horn, and understatements like "more than 30 years" when it's actually "about 59 years," or "almost 60 years" makes it look like someone in the corporate communications department doesn't know the company history very well.

Anyway, when I'm at Wrigley in April (for the first of several Cubs games this season), it will be nice to see some AA presence on the North Side.

Haha yeah - that was the first thing I thought, too.

Nonetheless, let's focus on the bigger picture here, which is that "clearly" this means Delta is about to drive AA out of ORD.

You do realize that DL (a better airline than AA) has been the official airline of the Atlanta Braves (a better baseball team) for almost a decade (rounding up WT-style).  Moreover, the DL-Braves partnership generates more revenue and quality publicity at any given time than any other airline - professional sports team partnership in the world.

Remember in the mid-1980s when Atlanta attendance was often fewer than 500 per game? The announced attendance (purchased seats) averaged 10,000 to 16,000 per game, but it was clear that on many days, fewer than 1,000 bodies crossed the turnstiles. Things improved dramatically during their heyday. Now that Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz and Larry Wayne Jones have long since retired, how is attendance holding up in Atlanta?

Not so good, apparently: http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2014/10/10/braves-attendance-lowest-in-10-years.html

One of my favorite moments in Atlanta Braves history is in the photo below from the 1992 World Series.
