The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), the country's aviation regulator, said it plans to approve two new carriers -- Northeastern Airlines Co Ltd and Data Qili Airlines Co Ltd.

The regulator said in a statement on its website that Northeastern Airlines, which will be based in the northeastern province of Liaoning, has registered capital of 151.27 mln yuan. Local government-owned Liaoning Huanjiang Industrial Co Ltd will be its major investor.

Northeastern will operate cargo and passenger services on domestic routes with three aircraft, said CAAC.
